I guess I am new here, I'm the stickman's flatmate. Due to unforeseen circumstances I will be buying his other wagon (the yellow '87 Custom Cruiser), with the understanding that I'll be able to do almost whatever I want to it without any drama.

I was going to look for a hearse, but they've become so few and far between in the area (especially for my price-range) I've decided the best solution would be to take a larger wagon, fill in the rear most windows, do some body work to it, and redo the interior (adding a false floor, drapes, etc.).

The Stickman has told me that the Buick wagons had a slanted front end clip, which sounds interesting to throw on there as well.

The end result would look something like this:

An added benefit to this is, the Stickman would finally be able to see what one of these wagons looked like when I paint one up in satin black using rollers (rustoleum) since he has been considering having me do his black-wagon that way.

Welcome Sarah. When you guys get the wagon trio done, there's gonna be some flat-out bragging rights up for grabs.

Sort of sounds like the StickHome syndrome, don't it? :D

That wood grain is nasty stuff, some parts of it came off easy but others were so stubborn that even a grinder had trouble getting it off.

Anyhow, all that vinyl is off, roof rack is off, side chrome trim is all off:

Ran out of black primer part way through and had to switch to flat black rustolem. Hate that stuff, it always clogs the nossel on me and ends up shooting gobs of paint at the car creating a rough texture [that's why part of the hood is so much darker]. Contrary to the picture the sides are pretty smooth, but the color is not consistent because the sides were not consistently colored [grinder left some spots of yellow, some spots of factory primer, some spots of bare metal]. Should be fine after more primer and paint but now it doesn't look so great.

Interior painted with flat black rustolem:

Need to touch up a few spots but it came out relatively decent.

There is really no place to put after market speakers in these cars. The rear 6x9s are so tiny that anything aftermarket is too tall.

So I'm going to have to make a fiberglass "top" to each speaker so it's not so exposed.

Need the cherry flooring, bier pin brackets and casket rollers yet. Might have a line on a full set of hardware but won't be until Oct or Nov.

Thinking black velvet to make seat covers for all the seats, red velvet for the drapes & rear cargo area headliner. I don't particularly feel like fighting with that rear section of headliner to get it back in, since I broke all those plastic clips in taking it out. I may just hang fabric over the rear cargo area like the top of a canopy bed and have the window drapes attached to it so it looks like one large piece. I've yet to figure out how to get the rear speaker covers back on so I am just going to leave them off [the drapes should cover up that whole corner anyway].

Yup, wood grain is a bugger to remove but you did so now you can lauph about the hastles.

You mention clips when talking about the headliner..? Are you talking about the clips that hold the finnish trim in? If so I broke every one of them when I did my headliner:banghead3:. I could'nt find replacements so I rigged some home made clips and used dabs of calking to hold then back in place.....so far, so good but time will tell. They have lasted over a year now though.

Idea maybe for your head liner..??.. Bear with me, it was done several times years ago when it came to the saging head liner. Thunb tacks, but from a interiour shop covered in your material. Hang your head liner but yous thumb tacks to pin it up in a diamond/quilted pattern. ( hope this makes sence)...it won't hang like a tent.

I kinda like where you are planning to take this(y)

I don't actually have sagging headliner, see I wanted to get into the rear speaker enclosers but to do that I had to remove the three metal trim bars that hold up the headliner. So I prayed off those metal bars, breaking all those white plastic clips, when the rear headliner fell down. So I pulled the rear headliner section out of the car [I only poked through it once in the process, it would have been easier but the tailgate won't fold down, only open out] and then realized with those clips broken I had no easy way to reinstall the headliner. Then after I found to my horror that nothing but the stock speakers can fit in the rear speaker enclosers, and I was unable to get those plastic speaker coverings back onto the car correctly. It makes one wonder if the design criteria given to GM's engineers was "make the interior panels as hard as possible to reinstall onto the car."

So I am thinking of simply incorporating the headliner into the design of the velvet drapes & leaving the stock headliner, speaker covers, and metal trim bars out.

Yup, those are the clips I am talking about, a one time only install design:mad:

Good luck with the speakers, I've wanted to upgrade in my Buick, I'll be watching (to learn) your do's and don'ts when it comes to fit.

So far I can't complain about the sound quality with the aftermarket speakers located where I put them, but since they point upward in the cargo area they do not "feel" as loud when you're sitting in the driver's seat. These are rated to, I believe it is 950 watts, and it doesn't start to feel loud in the front driver's seat until the sound quality starts to distort. However it sounds & feels totally different at that volume from the rear cargo area. I am surprised how inaudiable it is from outside the car, even with the windows all down. There does not appear to be a lot of sound deadener in the rear cargo area: a black pad of deadener over each tire "hump" and some compressed laundry lint glued to the underside of the rear side panels and that's about it.

A better installation would probably be ditching the rear speaker covers and making a bracket to hold the 6x9s so that they face just like the stock ones did. It would look odd though without some kind of interior panel covering that corner. I don't see where anyone would be able to mount 12s in this car. For all the space in there, just about every surface is being used by something and what isn't, needs to remain unobstructed so that the flooring can fold up properly. Maybe if someone was willing to part with their 3rd row bench they could fit a single 12" sub in there, and then make a grill in the flooring for it.

You could probably fit a decent amp and a mixer under the rear driver's side panel by cutting out that lockable storage box. There seems to be quite a bit of room in that corner that isn't being used, it wouldn't be a good place for a speaker though.
