Newbie in Northern Virginia

Hello wagoners - I just joined, wasn't aware of this forum until I got a link here from another CarDomain member.

I've had my '69 Colony Park wagon about 6 years, I've kept pretty much original, had the car repainted in the original medium lime poly, but I haven't been in a hurry to replace the woodgrain. I haven't driven it much in the past year, had a fuel issue I've fixed, and got the timing adjusted, but I'm dealing now with what I think is a broken heater core and a slight coolant leak.

This is one of three old Mercurys I own (the others are a '67 Cougar XR7, and a '64 Park Lane convertible). Most of my time lately is going into restoring a '62 Shasta camper. Anyone else on here have a vintage trailer?

That is a cool wagon I use to have a 69 Mercury Marquis 2 Dr with a 429 that car was a dream to drive. I hope to get mine looking that good.

Very nice wagon.

Growing up, we had a 72 Marquis Brougham (pillared hardtop) sedan. It was our family car for about 19 years from the time I was 1-1/2 years old until I was 21. It was just about that same color as your wagon (with Medium Gray-Gold interior and a white vinyl top). When I was 6, we were hit by a dumptruck out on a highway just outside of El Paso, TX and it totaled the car...my parents had it put back together again and kept on driving it. Around age 10, the engine broke to pieces...out went the 429 and in went another (from a totaled 71 LTD) and we're off and runnin' again. Those cars are tough and beautiful.

I just noticed the McGovern/Shriver bumper sticker. Didn't McGovern run for president in 68? It could have been 72 but I'm pretty sure 68.

So, what's it doing on a 69 Colony Park?

 

Ummm, McGovern ran against tricky Dick Nixon in '72 (and lost 49 states, then Watergate hit the news). Since the car wasn't built before the '68 election, I didn't want to risk warping the space/time continuum, so I went with a '72 sticker. One of these days I might find a "Nixon Now More Than Ever" sticker and toss it on there if the price is right. Or, since I'm in the DC area, I'll make my own "I Like Sonny" and "I Like Billy" stickers. (Try to figure that one out!)

I like the vintage stickers, they are a cheap alternative to rechroming the bumpers

My memory is as old as I am.

 

My wife is awful with names of people or things. I was trying to remember a 5 syllable word in Spanish for a 2 syllable word in English, and I stumbled and didn't want to say the 'what-ya-call-it' in Spanish (Como se llama?), so I pointed to the tip of my tongue. She thought I was choking!

As she got up to save me, I remembered the word, and saved myself from destroying my impeccable memory of remembering useless information!

Gotta eat more fish...
