I did a list of pending re-assembly steps to go in here: http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=711&page=30 And rather than have my name pop up under every thread on the board with my project (give you gracious guys some peace), I figured I'd start this up. I'm fighting Mother Nature's PMS (Pretty Mean Snow-weather ), so I learned last year when I started this (November 6, 2006), how to work in the cold, dress for it, and thaw out. (See Spot Run! Run, run, run!):banghead3: I've got 4 days with some snow, cloud, and cold nights, but over -10C (14F). And then maybe one or two more in the next few weeks, and that's it! At -10C, you get inside every 10 minutes or your skin freezes. Lots of guys here with chips off their ears from frost-bite! Here's what's left: A) Tailgate (Install lock/latch/wiper/electrics and backup light box) B) Modify the 6 cylinder manifold pipe to fit my V-8 Exhaust (It's in there, but I have to get it sealed up with a short adapter at muffler shop) (Muffler taped for now to get it running.) C) Install wiring harnesses (all) D) Re-install PB booster, wiper motor (Windshield) E) Reinstall Bumpers, tail lights, grille, headlights F) Install headlining, carpet, seats, seat belts. G) Install Rad, Alternator, Power Steering, Ignition parts, PS pump H) Steering column, pedals (new rubber floor seals to eng. compartment. I) Install dash, interior moldings. J) New license plates!!!!! K) Get the remains of the Donor car down to the junkyard. I reassembled the two bumpers yesterday (refinished, brackets and bolts all rust-protected), so they go on, with the grille and plastic shields today, most of the electrics and the rear wiring hooked up (wiper, tail lights, etc.) Steering column and pedals and brake booster back in today as well. TBird, I'm down from your 1,200 parts to 800 (not counting fasteners). If I get more done, I'll report later. We're at -4C (24F, with light fluffy snow) and going up to a balmy -2C (28F) by 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM, light winds. Brrrr! :banghead3:
A) Bumpers are on. Aligning them side to side and up/down was a bit tricky, but they went on. I bolted the grille in to get it properly gapped (hood-to-grille, grille-to-bumper) and then side-to-side centering based on the outside of the fenders (front and back). B) I still had some exterior moldings to install. Done! C) Cleaned up the dust and wetsanding muck inside the engine compartment and installed the Battery tray, and frame-mounted brackets. D) Rewired the rear tail-light circuit to do a stock trailer wire connection, instead of the loosey-goosey aftermarket system. E) Lined up the parts for tomorrow's tasks: Wipers (front and back), rear tailgate window washer system, wiring harnesses, hood latch cable, gas pedal, cruise control speedo cables, steering column/brake brackets. I have to work fast or freeze, so I don't get to have a smoke for hours (and I don't even think about it.) hmmm... may be a clue there about quitting. I think it was the Rev or 80Cutlass that recommended not getting into the brewskies at the beginning of the Roller Painting. Still haven't had one, yet. The one time I thought the wife might pick some up, she didn't and I didn't even notice for a week. I keep this up, I'll be walking on water (I know where the rocks are!) When I get the plates on, I'll get a six-pack and relax.
The doors on his close with one finger. I've never seen a car door close so nice. I'll have to get new door seals in the spring. He says that's why mine need a strong armed yank to close them. Nice car. His six is well-tuned with a special cam and has lots of GO! in it, and he's got the tickets to prove it.
The place I found my wagon at has a couple of Volvo wagons for 795-1095 been thinking about them but I found a really nice one on craigslist near me for $1100.00 but I'm not sure about it. Don't know what kind of gas mileage it gets. I know yours and your friends will get excellent mileage.
Excellent? How about 24 MPG city, and close to 30 hwy! The trick is in the Distributor Spring: http://fordsix.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=30894 Available here: http://www.classicinlines.com/DSII_swap.asp#DSIIgas Made by: http://www.msdignition.com/dist_69.htm I think I can tweak it a bit more when it gets warmer outside.
Oh! Check this site out too! http://www.gofastforless.com/ This is where I'd like to go with a V4 diesel 1995-6 Ranger Engine: http://www.vfis.us/
Those Little Diesel Rangers are hard to find here I have only seen 1 ever and it was on craigslist and it was so rotted out that it wasn't repairable.
I just want the motor, wiring, plumbing and trans. The same block was used in the Fairmonts and then changed to a diesel in 1987 or so, then dropped, then brought back as a diesel in the Rangers. Stock HP was 150, fuel was in the low 40's on a heavier vehicle than mine. The six has 94 HP.
Howdy, yah I'll get over, but the weather has been so snowy-wet and crappy I'm trying to stay off the roads. No special cam in my engine, yet, Norm, but I do have the double-roller timing chain advanced 4*, and did the spring swap in the dizzy. And have no smog crap, except for EGR. And with the tickets, I'm reluctant to put the modified head, hipo cam and two bbl carb on...
