I understand that he is a derby guy, and he is advertising to fellow derby guys, but I find it hard to believe that anyone of them would pay $7000 for a car that they are going to wreck. I think this guy stumbled upon the car because he is always seeking them out, and picked it up cheap. Upon closer inspection he realized that it was too nice to wreck and knowing the values on these cars are up, is simply doing a flip…and if it doesn’t sell…then derby it. Wouldn’t doubt it if he paid $1000.00 to an older person who might not know the value. Unless you are into these cars, and know the value, then it’s just old junk.

Assume away all you want....I will let Mr Swanny edumacate you on what a solid rust free round back wagon goes for in the midwest to hard core derby drivers....I know a guy that has sold nearly 20 rust free yet trashed and worn out roundys to the Metal Mayhem type of fellows over the yrs...made huge profits...I hope this fellow with the poncho does too...NW and southern cars bring a few bucks..
I guess you have not been noticing what they are going for when guys say that is Derby fodder..
I guess you have no idea the prize money of some of the bigger derbies that you would take that class of a car to in this day in age...
Used to be a derby in ol Cannuk that paid 50K...
That 7k poncho..with some negotiations...well Mr Swanny knows..

Nope, no idea what the derby is paying. I simply said I find it hard to believe because I remember my friends doing the derby back in the day. Back in the 80s, Derby guys paid $300 for a car. Last one I bought for the derby was $50. So, if you say so, I guess things have changed quite a bit.

I’ve seen guys paying $6,000 for derby shells. So this car could very well end up as a derby car. I am not interested in this car as it’s not a clean all original survivor. It needs new woodgrain, painted, side pipes removed and prob a rusty donor wagon to harvest good interior out of it.

I’d pay for an unmolested one first. I’d rather pay $13,000-$16,000 for one. You will have that much or more in this Pontiac to get it to a nice car. I’d rather have an original nice car.

I’ve owned a few wagons. Ruined a couple. I usually drove sedans though as I never used reverse
