RE: The Grossmans home improvement center...........

I seem to remember visiting a Grossmans, just once, back in the late 70's or early 80's, I think. We were looking for a replacement bathroom vanity cabinet and had heard they sold them, and were CHEAP. Don't remember buying one there, but I might have forgot that part. I only recall seeing maybe 2 Grossmans around the whole L.A. area, then, after a couple of years it seemed, they were gone.....

Article DOES mention some 'warehouse' style home improvement centers in pacific southwest...... As I mentioned, I only remember seeing a couple of them. They certainly weren't EVERYWHERE, like HD or Lowes, or even Builder's Emporium (remember them?)

How about Builder's Square, Eagle Hardware and Ernst? Those were big here in the Pacific Northwest.

Ah, Eagle Hardware. Loved going there with my Dad and really loved their commercials with Hall of Famer Edgar Martinez.
We had an Ernst here in town too. Both long gone now.

In So Cal, I DO remember Builders Square, but there was never one near me. Never heard of Eagle Hardware or Ernst......

If you moved to Oregon after about the mid-'90s, then no, you would've never seen an Ernst/Pay 'n' Save, or Eagle Hardware. I also forgot, Home Base, which was bought out by Home Depot. Eagle was bought out by Lowe's.

Eagle was long gone by then.
I couldn't resist looking up some of their old Edgar Martinez commercials.

No, this was not me, and we never painted a starting line on the road. The Country Squire in the photo is a '67. The Country Squire that my dad had when I was a teenager, was a '71. It was his '71 with a 429 under the hood that I used to take street racing. He never knew.

Jim. If you didn’t fill up pops Squire, he knew, or thought that car got real horrible mileage. Lol.
