Saw this one at the 2013 American Station Wagon Owners Association (ASWOA) get together in Detroit. Owner told us that the original purchaser was a SCCA racer who used it as a tow vehicle. Hope whoever buys it just keeps it as is.

So that 4-speed ambassador was priced at $30,000? Granted it was more pleasing aesthetically but this might be a better car. Be interesting to see what it goes for.

If the phantom 289 2V was taken into account, he ended up paying a total of $665.92 for that drivetrain

Doesn't seem like much NOW, but that's almost a 16% jump in the price for the big engine, 4-speed and buckets / console. Would have been worth it for ME, but not for most people. Personally, I would have kept the C6 Cruise-O-Matic behind the 428. The 1967 Ford wagon brochure indicates that the 428 was ONLY available with the Cruise-O-Matic, but is contradicted by the full-size regular car brochure, which indicates either transmission was available. This is basically a Ford '7-Liter' XL Country Squire.

It's an odd combination of field-find exterior deterioration and what looks like near-pristine interior. If the interior had been replaced, you'd think it would be mentioned. So I assume it's the original interior.

This is a photo of the wayback I took in 2013. Don't have a photo of the forward interior but remember it as worn.

I thought the very same thing. How is there no sun fade on the dash, or even any pucker in the headliner. I would think even in a barn for any length of time would have caused some issues with the inside. Ooops. Found the headliner pucker shot but it’s still in great shape interior wise vs the outside.

Wow. $25 big with 6 days to go. Wonder if it will beat the ‘78 that went for$45,000.

Being the only one built like that from the factory, I'm betting yes. Ordering it as a 9-passenger, I wonder as to how many kids the original owner had. Imagine having a dad who would go out of his way to order his cars properly. Then again, one of his son's was probably a crypto Leno half-brother

If the kid were smart he would have never let the dad get rid of it.

Dad probably found out that the kid was one of old man Leno's cuckoo kids and then decided to get rid of him or went for a drive going after that classical pack of cigarettes and not coming back, getting rid of the entire nest

I thought the interior looked really good in that picture too. I think once you look closer at some of the other interior pictures you can see some wear. Nothing terrible, but I don't think it is mint either. Keep in mind this car appears to have been in the north more most of its life so interior degradation from sun baking wouldn't be a huge issue.

A friend of mine talked to the owner a few months back. He told him he wanted $75k for it.

What did he say after he picked himself up off the ground?
