1968 Ford Country Squire

Per msg from Orthmann created new thread on new ‘68 Squire.

 

Recently purchased a 1968 Country Squire from an estate of a fellow car club member in Albuquerque. I affectionately called it the banana cause it was several different shades of yellow. The car had not run for a while, but after a new battery, and a couple of gulps of gas got her up and running. 1st thing noticed was a leak at the accelerator pump. On to the tow truck/ slider she went off to the mechanic and body guy.

 

You can’t really see by this photo, it’s different shades of yellow, or know that those are late ‘70’s Chrysler wheelcovers, but both situations were about to change.

 

Off to the body shop, had to change order from mechanic to body shop due to Covid19. Great body guy who painted all one yellow, correct W code, also previous owner had painted trim bandaid tan. They fixed cracks in trim and painted correctly. There was also some slight rust on right hand rocker. Fortunately no major metal work required

 

Well after a week or so at Elizabeth Arden car came out really nice. Haven’t done anything to di-noc to this point. It’s ok, painted, but looks good at 25 feet. Picked up car today, off to mechanic for the first thing a carb rebuild from a very good old school carb guy here in town.

 

Since my writing this afternoon, my order of 4 deluxe wire wheelcovers showed up. Had a complete set and a spare, but these were in really nice shape, and can always use the extras. Think they will look great on ole yeller. They certainly beat the ‘79 New Yorker wires. ATTACH=full]67830[/ATTACH]

Thanks. It was built in Los Angeles, ordered through Phoenix District Sales office, so I think always a Southwest car. Gonna order a Marti report once the dust settles.

 

I'm not a big fan of yellow, but a new coat of paint in the sunshine always looks great.

 

Nice! Always liked the big '68 Fords. Style-wise, I think it looks a lot better than the somewhat clunky-appearing '67.

 

I did love the horse on the ‘67! Also liked the big hub steering wheel. Like the hideaway lights on ‘68.

 

Well excitement in the Mercman house tonight. My new NOS side marker lights showed up along with my ‘68 Ford wagon brochure. Those will go on the car this week!
