sold for $45,000! went up $23k in last hour. I'd rather have this for $45 with 5k than the $45k Torino with 45 miles. at least here you could drive it some.

Don't believe that alleged selling price for a second! Nope!

That is more than double the price for the nicest documented GM 1970s clamshell wagon on the planet. No way.

Or just couldn't manage money. It just goes to show how unpredictable auctions are. Sometimes you can get way too much or way too little.
Battery terminal ends replaced within "5000 miles"? If he's goint to demand museum prices, at least he should have used solder-on replacement terminals, if original cables were no longer available

Count me as skeptical. It is one thing to see the bid, it is another thing to see the money.

anyone have info on what that country squire would have cost new? I'd like to compare, adjusted for inflation, to a new Ford Explorer just to see? (explorer probably being closest thing Ford now sells to this wagon, 3 rows etc.)

That ‘78 Squire would have sold for about $8,000 New. In looking at the Marti report I think it probably didn’t also leave the factory with those wheels. Since no mention of the wheels themselves it would have worn the standard LTD cover. I will be very interested to see if this car pops up again.

So $8,000 in 1978 = $31,739.63 today. I went to Ford website and built a 2020 Explorer XLT with cloth seats. not loaded up, it was $37,000

Buyer also mentions being a soccer Mom in Boca Raton Fl and showing up with her Ford wagon to show up the Range Rover crowd. If true, good for her.

My guess is when the novelty wears off and the new owner has to have a new loaded suv, we'll see this wagon listed on a classic car site for $19,500.
