1977 Ford LTD II Squire

Why no interest?

 

It's that late '70s malaise car stigma most likely. Brown isn't a super desirable color and it's kind of a base model equipment-wise. A few years later into the '80s and cars get more comfy and better equipped. It's one of those cars you have to really want to buy at the price. The price isn't bad either, if it drives well and doesn't leak water then it's about what you'd want to pay for a decent driver wagon.

Also, taking pictures on grass in the weeds probably doesn't help with the curb appeal.

 

"How long has it been sitting?"

 

EXACTLY. Add the "door seals in poor shape" and "minor rust\rot in some corners" and "needs a heater core" and you get a car that has a bit of issues that will need to be handled or be deal breakers for some people.

I've also found cars in Washington\Oregon seem to sit longer for sale. Probably because of the distance from a larger buying public back east.

 

Well I also find it interesting that he talks about the rot on the corners from the leaking, and I’ll get more pictures when it stops raining. If water is getting in there, correct it or cover it. I also agree, other than the Squire part, it’s really not a very well optioned, or desirable car, in the overall sceme of things. The main cause is there’s a lot of little things that need to be done to that car. So you could be in it $6-7,000 in nothing flat on top of the purchase price, and you still have that car. I like the ‘77 LTD II and Cougar wagons, but I would try to find a better example if I were on the hunt for one of these.

 

Accurate....
This Squire could use a good detail job. Paint looks dull; interior is filthy.

Washington / Oregon vehicles have their own issues. Primary one is moss growth. If you leave your vehicle outside, it WILL start to get the stuff in all the little crevices - under molding edges, etc. You need an old toothbrush to get at it - better if you can take the moldings off completely.

I just had another bummer on the Way-Back Machine. With the 'big snow this last week, I've had a couple big sections of the Di-Noc peel away from the sides. Looks horrible now.

I don’t remember this car too well, but 4 of 4 pictures of the front end don’t really excite me.

 

It's low option.

 

But don't you see? Each photo was taken in a different location. He's not selling the car itself, he's selling it based on how it looks against various backdrops!

 

Photos look more like facebook than a sales pitch. --

 

Oh...... its the experience of the car at these different venues that we’re buying. Thanks Jaunty. Sorry still ain’t been feeling that car.
