Nice looking example. I still find it hard to believe these cars are considered classics.

No underhood pics, either. If it is a V8-6-4 (because I see a badge on the front fender), how many would keep it just for looks, how many would remove it altogether, and how many would be stupid enough to try to make it work?

I remember my uncle had an ‘81 Fleetwood with that V-8-6-4 after not moving into 8 fast enough to get on the highway he had the dealer disconnect the thing in the V8 position. The dealer told him at the time, most people were doing that same thing.

This was just introduced if it passes , you will see prices really jump on these years.

Pre-1983 Vehicles could be SMOG EXEMPT in California!

California Assembly Bill 210 would amend current 1976 smog exemption by changing the year to 1983, giving enthusiasts eight more years of cars to modify.

Fortunately New Mexico is on a slider. Vehicles 35 and older don’t need smog tests.

And Washington State, after removing vehicles 25 or more years old from smog testing, is phasing it out completely next year.

Depends on where you're at. We don't need no stinkin' puffer tests up in Rio Rathole. Many states only have emissions testing in select metro areas, not the whole state.

That’s right Moparandfomoco man. I forgot you’re not in God’s Country. Bernallio County. Ha ha. I might rent a room from you. Got a few of those ‘83-‘86 cars I don’t want to wait on.

I’m really surprised about Washington State phasing out the smogs. I would think that Seattle would want Schwinn bikes to be smogged. It’s revenue ya know.

Well, that's just the thing. Most people assume Washington is Seattle. It's not. Washington is a pretty good sized state.
Truth is, you'd find that most of the rest of the state doesn't tend to think like Seattle.

They aren't overly difficult to make work if you make a few modifications to the wiring harness for the solenoids to keep them from pinching and overheating plus a few other minor things to help them out. Overall though, the 4 cylinder mode was fine if gutless, but the 6 had weird vibrations since the engine wasn't balanced for 6 cylinder operation. The amount of fuel economy saved was about 1.5-2MPG, so quite a complicated system for virtually no real world benefit.

Ultimately if you don't want to screw with it, remove the wire going to the speedometer sensor on the transmission and instant 368 on all 8 cylinders all the time. It was the last "good" Cadillac engine and last "good" engine in a Cadillac until the Oldsmobile engines started getting put in around 1987 (HT4100 was ugh).

Yeah I know. It’s just that Seattle makes the news. You sure have a beautiful state otherwise.

It's why I came back after my Navy service. San Diego is a nice city, but back in '89, it was the bloody expensive place to be, and that was in both San Diego and Imperial Counties. At least up here, if you stay away from Seattle, it drops in price. And Eastern Washington is mostly ag country, so places to just live are very cheap.
