Why did Canada get the better Fords and the lesser Pontiacs?

Damn... that's a nice looking ride! I love the quad lights. I am dead set on getting 58-61'sh 4-door now. I couldn't live with myself if I didn't.

    Weren't the Mercurys called Monarchs?
Why did Canada get the more uppity trim?

I'm not so fond of the rear ends of those. But, IMHO, those were the best Ford front ends of the entire Fifties. Everytime I see one, it reminds me of that famous Badlands chase. I almost like it better than that Bullit one.
Can anyone tell what's in that '58, if the sound is authentic? Supposedly, M.E.L.s were offered on the Police Interceptor versions:

Hey mwrich. Love your avatar. I remember as a kid the first time I saw that spinning in the Matchbox case at Woolworths. OMG. I conned my mom into getting me two of those. One for play, and the other one stayed in the “garage”. Thanks for a happy trip down memory lane.

Thanks! My wagon hunting trip jogged a long forgotten brain cell. I started to remember something about a green wagon toy of some sort I had and eventually pinpointed the cause to this Matchbox car. I may still have it packed in a Hot Wheels case in some box out in the garage.

I’m sure if it’s like 99% of movies the sound track is “sweetened” to optimize effects. Even if that ‘58 had a transplanted 368, or the big “E” ‘58 engine, or the interceptor 352 it sounded GM throaty. That’s my humble opinion.

Yeah, the patrol car sounded like it was revving red-line, if not over. I was hoping that the film was old enough to be at least somewhat authentic whatsoever:cold:

In Canada we had both the regular Ford and the Meteor. The Meteor was sold by Mercury dealers. Canadian Pontiac's were Chevy's under the skin and sold so well by the 1950's into the 1960's that many years it was number three in sales then number two in sales and by the early to mid sixties, many years it out sold Chevy and Ford in Canada. The Monarch was a version of the Mercury.

Judging by the trim, it seemed like a more luxurious version of the Mercury. If all potential Mercury buyers had even seen one, I wonder how many would have tried ordering one with Monarch trim

The above car is a 1956 Meteor. Regular Mercury's were sold in Canada as well. The one bellow is a 1955 Packard.

As soon as I saw it I thought to myself "That's a Packard"
Perhaps he was showing it as a comparison.

That was the Bing search engine listing a Packard among Mercurys. The V on the grill was the cause of my getting swindled, since the Monarchs were also using the Vs
