longest and heaviest?

since the 1960's what is longest and heaviest station wagons? not any special limo types, just standard show room models?

 

60's thru 90's

 

Correct me if I'm wrong but the weight prize might go to the 1974 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser with 3 seats:

Weight: 5238 pounds;
Length: 231.2 inches (19 feet, 3.2 inches)

Supposedly, the 75 and 76 Buick Estates are longer:

Length: 231.8

I looked up each year of the 71-76 Buicks and Oldsmobiles on Automobile-Catalog.com, they also list Chevrolet and Pontiac but I didn't look at those just now.

 

Just going from memory here, but I think the Chevy and Pontiac clamshell wagons were on a bit shorter wheelbase than the Olds and Buicks - so they're probably about 2-3" shorter overall than a Buick or Olds from the same year.

 

I think depending on options and configuration the '71-76 glide-away wagons were the biggest and heaviest cars ever made. Olds vs. Buick vs. Pontiac vs. Chevrolet would depend on how well optioned they were, the cars were practically the same underneath with an inch here or there depending on year.

 

Just looked up a 71 Kingswood Estate with the Turbo Jet... 223.2 inches, 4804 Lbs (though I don't know if the weight's for a 2 or 3 seater; ) that's an 8" and 430 pound difference between the 71 Kingswood and 74 Olds. The other two kinds of 71 Kingswood Estates are 4942 Lbs and 5039 Lbs, respectively.

Other Glide-Away Wagons across makes were closer to each other in spec.

 

Let's take it back to 1960. Which one? The unibodied or the full-framed?:

How much does it weigh?

 

Just going with the "eyeball test" I would guess that the early to mid 70's Chrysler, Dodge and Plymouth Wagons would have a shot at longest and heaviest.

 

1974-1976 New Yorkers were 227.2 inches and went from 49xx to 50xx to 51xx in 74, 75 and 76. They downgraded to 50xx for 77. Buick and Oldsmobile still win for length, weight varying.

 

Hey Poison Ivy. Looked up the ‘60 CP. it was 219.2 inches long and it booked at right at 4700 lbs. and change. with the 3rd row back seat, and fender skirts it’s probably around 4,800 lbs.
