Doesen't look bad, actually. Certainly worth forking out the half grand. Without a title, maybe drop the body onto something else
on the power tour I rode with a guy who had a few v-8 corvairs including a wagon he used a lemans chassis I think and had the engine in the front
I was recently informed by Cammerjeff that there were corvair pickups as well? Still Rear engine? This was after I discovered the wagons. I just thought corvair was cars. Are there any other model of cars that come in car, wagon, truck versions? I can think of a Malibu? But the truck version would be an el Camino of course...
Have you got some spare frame? Simply drop the body onto a Monte Carlo: https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/corvair-frame-dimensions/7697/page1/ http://www.squarebirds.org/corvair/corvair.htm
Yes, all Corvair models, including the 95s were rear drive, powered by a rear-mounted, air-cooled, horizontally opposed ("flat") six cylinder engine. As the Corvair car was "inspired" by the VW beetle, the Corvair 95 series -- panel van, Greenbrier window van, and the two pickup models -- were clearly inspired by the beetle-derived Volkswagen type 2 models, which included the bus, a panel van, and single and double cab pickups. In like manor, the first generation Econolines and Falcon Club Wagons and Station Buses, which included panel van, window van, and pickup models were based on the Falcon car architecture. Falcon went one better by also fielding a Ranchero model from '60 through '65 (and, arguably, '66). I believe the second generation Chevy Van (mid-engined and water-cooled like the Econoline and 1st generation Dodge Van) was based on the Chevy II/Nova, but there was no pickup version. There was a pickup version of the 1st gen Dodge Van, but I don't know if it was based on a car chassis. Anyone up on this? Of course a number of modern minivans were car-based, notably Chrysler Corp.'s 1st gen vans which were based on the K-car and Ford's Windstar which was based on the Taurus. Note that both of these car lines offered station wagons, as well.
I think the biggest disadvantage the Corvair van had over the Ford and Dodge vans was the lack of a flat floor.
The most practical use for this van would have been as a bus No doubt, that as many existing parts were used, to build these vans. Beyond that, I don't see much in the way of basing them on existing cars
Phooey. I’ve seen a corvair truck AND van. Just didn’t know what I was looking at I guess...when he said corvair truck I imagined el Camino/ranchero style corvair
