I got back Tuesday from a trip out to Vancouver Island and put 6000 m/9600 km on the 85 TD and only had one issue with the car, I discovered I had a partially plugged rad when I started driving in the mountains, although the engine temps got up to 105-110 C on the gauge I didn't have any over heating but I couldn't run the ac which made the Spokane to Anacortes Wa section of US 2 a little rough. Once I arrived at my brothers home on Vancouver Island I ordered a new rad from Vancouver BC and installed it once it arrived plus found that I also needed to recharge the ac. From that point the car ran great for the rest of the trip. Crossing the bridge to the US side of Sault Ste Marie South shore of Superior on hwy 28 east of Marquette Mi At Kroll's Diner in Minot ND for supper on day two The North Dakota and Montana scenery is just beautiful The obligatory state line photo On the bluff over looking Coulee City and part of the dam & reservoir system On the way to Leavenworth Wa Waiting for the Anacortes ferry and the ride to Vancouver Island With a De havilland Beaver taking off at Friday harbour for good measure
Arriving at Sidney BC The back of my brothers house plus one of the fountains and carousel at Butchart gardens, Love the carousel and fireworks (didn't get pics of that) Back on the mainland and at the Rogers pass visitors center plus hiking in the pass (we spent two days hiking). We were filling our water bottles directly from the glacial streams, oh what nice water and vistas. A selfie while on the trail just because
Climbing out of Golden BC on our way to Kicking Horse pass Bow lake and the Icefield parkway On the Yellow Head trail through North Battleford Sask heading for Winnipeg Mb At my sister's home just North of Winnipeg, also discovered that a rock had punched a hole in one of the headlamp trim bezels. Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg, I recommend seeing it, give yourself a full day and start at the top, you'll understand once you're there And finally driving on the North side of Superior on the way home, now it's unpack, clean up and get ready to head back to work Monday
Heck of a trip, have only driven across South Dakota, Montana once, it was amazing - trying to tell someone from the Eastern US what it's like is impossible, they just don't get it - mile of roads and you can see forever and no cars - doesn't happen in the Boston to DC corridor. thanks for the pictures - looks wonderful.
Wow! What fantastic photos-looks like a great trip. Even better that it was in a classic wagon! Thanks for sharing. Pete
Man, you came up US2, and you didn't let me know? I live in Everett, right at MP 0 where 2 meets Interstate 5!
Great pictures. I loved Friday Harbor when we visited years ago. Saw Killer Whales in the harbor by the lighthouse. If I won the lottery, that's where I'd go.
Didn't even cross my mind and we even overnight-ed in Mount Vernon. Maybe I should have because I-5 was almost a parking lot when we got to it on Monday afternoon. Oh yeah, I posted interior pics from a previous vac trip in the Diner thread a while ago.
Yeah, a lot of people now live North of Marysville, so the interchange North is packed during rush hour. Luckily you didn't come through on a Friday afternoon!
It was kind of funny, but while we were driving up towards the interstate I noticed quite a few trucks and other vehicles turning north on 9 and I said to the wife " Maybe they know something we don't", I guess they did.
Great pics. Gawd I miss my Mercedes. Nothing beats the view looking over that hood ornament. Tell ya what. Those mountains make the great smokies look like hills. Wow! The water fall coming off the mountain was breathtaking I can’t imagine what that looks like in person
This made me LOL! Not because of what you saw, but I thought this morning, the fact going up SR9 was a fair and beautiful alternative!
What a great trip you had. I 'd like to make a trip across Canada sometime, maybe have a BBQ with Tedy and fill my SWF t-shirt with member's signatures along the way. Thanks for sharing your trip with us.
