The Great Race, road rally arrived in Truro today, twenty minutes from us so mom and I took a drive in to see the cars arrive. The race started in Buffalo, June and ends in Halifax tomorrow, Canada Day, July 1st. 150 cars, drivers, navigators and volunteers from mostly Canada and the U.S. Tere was a few from Japan, Australia and England. https://www.greatrace.com/history This Buick wagon lost it's brakes yesterday, in order to miss another participant they had to ditch it. Notice the scrapes along the side? However back on the run and still in the race. I spoke with a volunteer while waiting for the cars to arrive. She and her family are from New Mexico and have a car in the race. She, her husband and three children are involved with the race. They take turns driving and helping out at the stops, selling souvenirs etc. Nice people. It was a good day
Interesting side note to this story. It was announced that a '64 1/2 Mustang was having to exit the rest of the race, no reason was giving. I wonder if damage was done during this incident?
It's pretty neat that you were able to see all of the participants and their cars Fannie. It looks like there was some pretty cool stuff there.
When I first read the title to this thread I was a little apprehensive about reading it. I thought it might be some dillusional rant praising White people. Boy I’m glad I was wrong what a cool event. Sad about the wagon... and the mustang too I guess. Nice follow up there yeller. Thanks for all the pics!!!
That's not the Great Race! The REAL Great Race started in New York and ended in Paris and was held in 1908. They made a movie about it in 1965 starring Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis! On a more serious note, there really was a New York to Paris race in 1908, and the 1965 movie really was inspired by it. But it wasn't actually called "The Great Race." https://www.wikiwand.com/en/1908_New_York_to_Paris_Race
Haha. Poor attempt at humor. Sorry... they can’t all be winners. I’ll go sit on the bench with ivy...
