Back in 1973 My dad bought a brand new Ford Torino Station Wagon from McAnary Ford in Gary, Indiana. As a promotion, I am assuming, with the Radio Flyer toy wagon corporation for 1 cent more you could purchase a wooden toy wagon. The reason I say it was a Radio Flyer wagon is because I remember the wagon looking very similar to the "Earth Wagon" Radio Flyer sells today. Does anyone have any first hand knowledge of this promotion??? Or even better yet any literature about it??? Please let me know what you have or may remember yourselves. Just FYI I was just 2 years old when this purchase was made so my memory is a little bit foggy. LOL! Thanks in advance.

Wow, that is memorie lane...I still have my wagon, not a Radio Flyer but a something(?) flyer. I now remember Mom and myseft going to The Hudsons Bay Company to buy it and then waiting what seemed like forever for it to be deliverd. It's behind our fire wood pile, no wheels, another resto.....some day;)

Cool pic of the wagon and your kids, hope you find the info your after:)

I guess I wasn't the only one that had one of these. I remember riding down the hill and jumping paint cans in that wagon. Poor wagon took a beating, but it was a lot of fun.

Also for the record I don't who these little kids are in the photo. I "borrowed" the photo from an Ebay ad. :rofl2:

Thanks Norm, I'll thumb through and see what I can find. If nothing else maybe some vintage photos and dealer articles.

Yup, we've got one of those wagons, too. Had it since the kids were little (they're 19 and 21 now). Stakes on ours were red, though. The wagon's come in handy over the years, hauling kids, bricks, plants, you name it.

Hey Guys, just FYI I did get a response from this post from a first hand participant. The son of the co-owner of the dealership filled me in on the whole Ford promotion. Unfortunately the dealership closed down in 1984, but hopefully the gentleman will send me some photos of the dealership and maybe even some old news paper advertisements for future "show" props. It's funny sometimes you do get what you ask for. :1st:

I found a "slightly used" Radio Flyer wagon that I have disasembled to restore too. The metal pieces will be getting a new coat of paint and the wood pieces are getting replaced. My brother has the wood working gift so he is doing all the measuring, cutting, and sanding of the replica wood pieces. The wooden slats are just getting a new coat of paint, but it's the base pieces that need replacing. Very dry rotted and warped due to the rough Texas sun. Then I will re-assemble and post "after" photos. But in the meantime here is a "before" photo.

Slightly used is right. That's in nice shape for it's age.:thumbs2:
