Hello All, As a longtime lurker on this forum, it's way past time I introduced myself and began participating... Having an eye for the unusual from a young age, I've had a "5-door fetish" for as long as I can remember . Classic wagons, hearses, ambulances and the like have always captured my interest and I've owned and enjoyed several of each over the years. In my chosen profession of auto restoration, I've also had the opportunity to breathe new life into several other wagons and professional cars for friends and clients, and I continue to do so. A few classic and/or daily-driver wagons from my past include: '92 Buick Roadmaster '88 Buick Electra Estate '72 AMC Hornet Sportabout '72 Ford LTD Country Squire '66 Chrysler Town & Country '60 Eureka-Cadillac Hearse My current "toys" are my keepers... A 1957 Eureka-Cadillac Combination Hearse/Ambulance I've owned since 2006 and my most recent purchase, a 1960 Mercury Colony Park Country Cruiser hardtop wagon, acquired from the estate of a local Lincoln collector in 2015. A hardtop wagon has been on my bucket list for a while and the '59 and '60 Merc wagons are my favorite, so I was very happy to find a decent example at a reasonable price. My '60 CP is far from perfect and needs a lot of love, but it's very complete and presentable and also came with a wagon-load of NOS parts, so I'm happy!! Here she is, "Millicent" the Mercury... I look forward to meeting other wagon enthusiasts here on the forum! Martyn
Welcome aboard WagonMD A hardtop wagon is hard to beat and it looks like yours is quite the example. I hope you get a lot of enjoyment from it. Thanks for sharing.
Welcome aboard, Martyn, It's always good to see another Longroof enthusiast join our ranks. Your Mercury HT wagon is a beauty. I always liked the hardtop wagon style in all brands. Buick, MOPAR, Oldsmobile....and of course Mercury. Jack
Thank you Jack, Glad to be here! I've always liked and appreciated the various brands of hardtop wagons too, but the often misunderstood Mercury is the one I wanted to own . Let's not forget the brand that started the hardtop wagon craze in '56... Rambler!
Martyn, Thanks for mentioning the Rambler HT wagon....I forgot about that one. Some years back, a local old car junkyard had reopened after being closed for many years. I recall seeing a '57 Mercury Commuter 2-dr HT wagon. Although it was pretty rusty, it was a cool wagon. There were a bunch of cool cars with mega potential... a '50 and '51 Chevy sedan deliveries, a '50-'51 Pontiac sedan delivery besides. These cars were scooped up...not by me, unfortunately. The Mercury Commuter was also spoken for. Hopefully, they all went to a good home and was successfully restored back to their former glory.
Jack, Thanks for sharing your memories, sounds like there were some very cool cars in that yard... Glad they were spoken for rather than crushed! The Merc 2-dr hardtop wagons are interesting cars and it's cool to see one in any condition.
