The seller contacted me today and said this wagon is still for sale. I said I'd post an update on the forum in case someone is interested. I also told him to wait a couple of months until spring and he'd probably get more interest and also hopefully dollars.

"May" need a charge? He can find out in two seconds, and he should. What's stopping him from doing so? More importantly, for $18,000 the car should need nothing. He should make sure the A/C works.

Did he say if he has received any offers? I don't know if he has had any previous craigslist ads, but the current one is only 20 days old as of this writing, less than three weeks. He needs to give it some time, especially since we're at Christmas time and people's minds and dollars are tied up elsewhere.

If it's been, say, 3 or 4 months and he hasn't had any serious nibbles, then it's time to rethink the asking price. I agree with the comment above that it's more of a $12k to $13k car, at most. As I noted earlier, it's got 100,000 miles on it, so it's no cream puff. As nice as it is, if it were a 20,000 mile car, he might come close to justifying his nearly $20k asking price. As it is, it is at most a low teens car.

I made the seller a standing offer the first time around of 13,000 which I thought was reasonable.I was told he had a dealer coming that weekend to look at it for 16,500. I made the same offer yesterday and was told he's not interested in that amount of money. Again, I think the 13,000 is a good offer. Tom

I agree. Keep the offer active (assuming you continue to want the car). The ad has been up only a few weeks, and he might understandably be waiting to see if he gets any interest at closer to his asking price. But if he still has the car a few months from now, his tune may change.

I'd think this Buick would be a very good candidate for eBay Motors. It would certainly get a much broader audience, and bidding would give an idea of what market value for it really is. Seller can always protect himself by holding a reserve.

My guess is he's gonna have to come down on the price. In his favor, the AC is probably blowing cold air now!

All he told me is that he didn't sell it to the dealer mentioned above and it was still for sale. He's only had the car about a month and listed it as soon as he acquired it as part of a collection. He definitely doesn't need to sell it having other pristine cars and I think it's just a space issue. I think he can get north of 15K if he waits until spring which is what I recommended to him that he does. He just needs to find the right museum who needs a car like this and it will be sold.

Sinc, whereabouts in Orange County did you see this wagon? There's a wagon 'flipper' who lives in the Lemon Heights area of Santa Ana that advertises once in a while (not lately, though). I don't think it's this guy, but maybe.......

I saw the car in Chino. I'm not familiar with the wagon flipper but I'm sure it's not this seller. ( Maybe it was the guy selling that yellow Olds? ). This is the first clam shell for this owner and he asked me to show him anything I knew about them. Like for instance how to operate the tailgate from the dash and the rear switch. He wasn't aware of that. ( Not that I'm an expert by any means. The most important thing to know is where the gas filler is since my 74 Estate wagon gets just under 8 mpg on the freeway at 60! )

Yes he thought it just worked off the rear key. As I mentioned earlier, he just got the car and didn't know much about it.

I concur on the earlier remarks on using fleabay. Craigslist just isn't where premium collectors troll
