I am getting 47 miles a gallon with my Honda fit driving in the canyon.

    Just reading through old threads.......

My wagon got 15mpg on 126 mile highway trip recently, 289 C4. (give or take a bit for conversion from litres to gallons)

I filled it up until it was spilling out, drove said trip then filled it up back at some bowser to same full level, then converted the litres it took to refill. I don't really trust the fuel gauge, even when it was totally full, it still showed less than full.

I was reasonably happy with that. Its a weekend car, so I'm not too worried about economy. I just put it down to the price of the hobby.

    cheers

So who's seen this 1994 Caprice with a manual trans swap, lower ratio gearing in the rear, synthetic oils, aerodynamic modifications and a heck of a lot of engine-off-coasting?

It may not look like a big improvement but I'd like to ride in it or a wagon like it.

I think it would get better mileage going in reverse based on aerodynamics.
If you're driving a '94 Caprice wagon and are worried about gas mileage you shouldn't be driving a '94 Caprice wagon.
That's like putting a pig in a spandex flying trapeze artist's costume and calling it sleek.:D
If you want better mileage start off with a Yugo-like vehicle then go to the gym and lose about 50 pounds, works every time.

    It might.
Nah... The 1991-1996 G.M. Whale Wagon is the most aerodynamic full-size wagon I know of right now. Already it's up to a good start because of its stock 0.35 Coefficient of Drag. The owner has it because of its utility but also likes to cut down on his fuel bill. He has $4,000 or less in the whole thing.

I've had the Mercedes 300TD out on the highway a few times and I seem to get 31-32 mpg on the old diesel.

Last tank in the 1990 Mercury on 87 (E10) was around 22. Not above HWY mileage but I did put a bottle of Amsoil P.I. in at the previous fill and the previous tank was about 20. Sure there are other factors to consider but I wonder if the injectors and combustion chambers benefited from the cleaner.

Yes. I do have the trip meter and it works although my speedometer's off; when it reads 59 I'm going 55.
