Are there any Station Wagon Cruising clubs out there?

I know that every now and then, enthusiasts of all makes and models get together for cruises located in specific parts of the country. I know of at least a Mustang Cruise and a Vista Cruiser Cruise.

I was wondering if anyone ever attempted to start up a local riding club? I was thinking of doing one where I live.

You know how Motorcycle clubs get together for cruises and just... ride? That's what I'd like to do, only with Station Wagons.

I was thinking of starting one maybe, and calling it the Slidell Secret Society of Station Wagons and Shooting Brakes. And maybe, if it gets big enough, one day, change "Slidell" to "Southern". Lol.

I figure we could all meet at my house or something early in the morning whenever we decide to go on a cruise and just sit in my study or the sunroom, or perhaps around the fire the night before, and plot our course for a round trip cruise. We'd just cruise in as many station wagons as we can gather. And then, after the cruise, we could go out for a few beers and disband.

Has anyone ever done that, or thought about doing that? I have a couple friends who have a wagon or two, but I've never thought about organizing a cruise. Maybe it would be nice.

Then again, with that many longroofs on the road, maybe it would create a bit of traffic!

Sounds like a neat idea. I know our local Mustang club does this type of cruise once a year in conjunction with their show.
I'm afraid I won't be able to attend your cruise though.

It seems difficult in smaller areas to keep any club active. Here in the TriCounty area of the Big Bend we had over 100 members in the TriCounty Cruisers. After a number of years we disbanded. They still meet informally most Friday evenings and the locations seem to change.
Good luck. I know of one other long roof beer drinker in the Slidell area. At least the two of you could cruise someplace.

Watch out about letting those "wagon people" into your house.
I'd go to cruise-ins and shows and talk to other wagon guys and see if they're up for it.
You could organize a charity wagon show, advertise it and give away a few 10 buck trophys and they'll come from hundreds of miles around.:D

I think that other dude in Slidell in named Dennis. I might just have to send him a pm and see if he wants to organize something.

I do sometimes go to the cruise-ins, too, but unfortunately, I'm usually the only wagon guy there. Or maybe that's a fortunate thing since people seem drawn to wagons at shows. I dunno. But it doesn't bode well for meeting other wagonmasters.

Lol. Maybe I should just do to others what others do to me. When I see a wagon, just go into the joint and ask around until I find it's owner and chat that person up a bit and see what happens. Maybe I can get some momentum for a cruising club that way. Only problem with that is I'm not really that good at making smalltalk to people I don't know in person.... Ah well.

Especially guys named Dennis.......... Except me of course!:stirthepot:

Don't give up the idea. Even getting other wagon owners to meet at a weekly car cruise-in is a good idea.

I love the idea Buz! Too bad you're not here in So Cal. I belong to my local chapter of the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America and we do cruises every so often. But one dedicated to station wagons would be REALLY cool. :)

Great idea! I'd be down for it. But, finding enough wagon guys in a small geographical area might be difficult. Maybe try to organize something in the Southeast, and meet in a big centralized city? See what happens.

That's what I might have to do.

During Cruising the Coast last year in October, I went to Biloxi and on my way there, I saw a gathering of Jeep Wranglers . I'm taking HUNDREDS of Jeeps!

That's what I want. Lol. They had a police escort and everything!

Here's an idea OldsWagonmaster-------------- Invite 1tiredennis tireman over to talk about wagons, get him drunk, and steal his door latch. Make sure to put your broken one on his wagon and he'll never know!:stirthepot:

Now now... I would never steal. And trust me... he'd know! the door would be hanging open!

I've run into Dennis around here once or twice. I think his wagon is down atm, though. =/

A local car club I have belonged to since the 70's has always tried to plan a variety of cruising options. In the early years it was usually to car shows or family oriented day trips and picnics. More recently many of us are now retired so in the summer we plan a once a month "Rods in the Park" run where we cruise to different park locations to enjoy lunch and socialize. We also have monthly Family "ice cream runs" and still cruise to shows, our club picnic, local events and more.
In the winter along with our monthly meetings, we have a holiday party, "gimps and geezer weekly lunches" and "garage tours" where we visit other members garages to check out their projects. One of the members hosts a "car nuts" get-together at his place where some of the guys hang out and help with his race car.
Being in the south you have a longer cruising season than us northerners. Use your imagination, find things that your buddies might like. I found even if you start small with a few guys, when the others find out they will join in. Our Saturday breakfast started in 1970 with a few guys and now has multiple locations throughout the county and beyond where club members and friends enjoy getting together.

RMay those are some great events and ideas. Our local car club used to go every Friday evening to a nearby town to their cruise in. Often up to maybe 100 miles. This brought them to our meets on Saturday evenings. We really enjoyed those. Even in dead of winter like tonight it's decent enough to meet for awhile.
The park parties and ice cream cruises would be family fun.:bouncy:
Sadly things happened and our club disbanned. A few still meet but it's not really a club. Still cars, people, and fun are what a club is.:grouphug:

Best I can come up with is sorta related.
Spring-Summer is "Jet Age Cars" out of Tacoma WA area. Focus is 58-62 American cars (fudge year a bit if you like). Bout unofficial as a group can get. Meet somewhere: shopping center, park, house, etc and cruise together for most the day. Might be cruising to Ellensburg then canyon road to Yakima in 2016. Nine of my 18 cars are 58-62 American, so that works for me.
