New here! From the Upstate of South Carolina, here is one of my projects. A 1966 Rambler Classic, 770 trim. Good old 232ci 6 cyl, 2bbl., 3spd auto. This has always been a South Carolina Car orignating in Aiken, SC. It came with a folder of receipts for just about everything that has ever been done to it over the years. Even had the original window sticker from AMC. So far the majority of work on it has been cosmetic with the exception of a complete brake overhaul. This past Fall the tranny started leaking pretty bad and slipping so it is parked right now. I also have '65 Classic wagon project for the future when I get time. Craig in SC Cleanup.. when it first arrived...
New to the forum from the beautiful Upstate of South Carolina. My ride is a 1966 Rambler Classic 770 Wagon. It's been in SC all of its life and was sold with a ton of old receipts for just about everything it's ever had done to it. Even got the original window sticker. 232 ci, 6 cyl, 2bbl carb, 3spd AT. Pretty basic. Does run, but tranny started leaking and slipping last Fall so it's been resting ever since. I've also got a '65 Classic wagon that's a future project and a '73 Ambassador wagon that's needing a lot of lovin'. Craig in SC
yes they are! Tough that is...For having a reputation as one of Detroit worst car companies,AMC made a lot of long lasting cars. There's quite a few of them rolling around SoCal.The one you've showed us so far, looks mighty fine...
I like it. tranny work isn't all that expensive but probably comes close to a big P.I.A. It's worth an overhaul. Probably less than $1k.
Thanks all! I haven't had time to get into the problem yet. Weather has been kind of nasty on the weekends as usual and I kind of got side tracked onto another project, a 78 dodge Magnum, 400/4bbl. So the wagon awaits my attention. It shifted fine but did have a little bit of a slip on takeoffs. Last cruise-in I went to it got a lot of attention due to the rather large puddle of tranny fluid beneath it. Not the kind of attention I had hoped for. It still drove home fine but I need to get a better handle of what is the problem. If might just be a bad pan seal. Just not sure yet.
I just saw a couple yesterday at the Junkyard, decent parts cars. Good glass and interiors. Looked around that period too. Anyway, welcome aboard Craig. Let us know what to watch for.
One thing you can't see in the pics is the original 1966 South Carolina License plates. IN SC we can register year of manufacturer tags for our old cars. So the wagon displays the Blue SC plates from 1966, the year it was born. I also have 1965 plates for the '65 Classic wagon and '57 plates for the Nash.
Welcome to the forums. I grew up in Lancaster SC and you could transfer tags from owner to owner if you wanted when you bought their car or use to be able to. BTW I'm not to far away in NC if one of those wagon needs adoption.
Thats cool, I wish they would let us do that. The best I can do is get collectors plates with cheaper insurance but with all the conditions and restrictions I'd never be able to drive!
