My mother had one for her Fabrics and Gowns shop. She wouldn't let the old man near it!:D Except to load the Fridge, once! She hauled mannequins in the back, for some of her classy clientele.

I don't recall any Fords with Denum other than the CocaCola Denum Machine custom van But I do remember several AMC models with had it. I have seen a denum gremlin and Chev/GM offered a Wrangler option of denum bench seat and door panels.

OK, :coffee: is over and I'm out the door now, I'll be posting pics....work with me weather:bowdown:

The reason they put fences around cemeteries is because people are dying to get in.:)

If hearses were made like that, with the sliding roof, you could stand the boxes on end - standing room only - and they could give a volume discount.

Did you add a thin foam backing to the denim?

Its a neck breaker alright. US and CDN Fairmonts and Zephyrs have the same type of headliner system with a cardboard backing. Mine, however has the old hoop system, used only in Mexico, eh. PITA-Plus.

I hope he glued a foam backing on it. I learned a long time ago that fabric will soak up the glue.

    Progress!

Rain stopped me from putting it all back together today but maybe thats a good thing....I forgot to bring home some acoustic insulation (sound deadener) from work. What the factory put up there is a joke!

This is every thing I needed for this job, I did use 2 full cans of the spray glue and just barely made it. I would recomend having a 3rd can just in case. 5 miute epoxy was used to repair the head liner panel where the visors attach, both corners were broken away before removal. Sorry I did'nt get a pic of that repair. The silver tape is a strong metal foil tape used in comercial ventilation, I used it to further strengthen the broken corners after the epoxy. This tape is good stuff, strong, heat resistant, very workable, and I've used it on beater car exhausts with good results.

When useing the spray glue make sure you test your material (a scrap) with the glue and read the can to make sure it can be sprayed on cloth materials and not soak through, it will wreak your material if the glue soaks through. Before spaying pour some lacour thinner into a cap and have it ready if the nozzle starts to get cloged. Your spray pattern will tell you when it's clogging, just drop it in and let soak for a couple seconds then put back on the can but first spray into a can or some thing for a second to get rid of all the thinner in the nozzle before you spray the head linner.
If the nozzle clogs and you can't clean it, your dead in the water!
    hl7.jpg

The existing foam came off very eazy with the scrapers and the fine foam particles that were left behind rubbed off fast just by useing my hands then hand sweep into the trash. The small panel is there also just needing touch up glue at the edges.
    hl2.jpg

After the foam removal I wiped the panel with L-thinner to make sure it was clean. My wife and friend (in the pic) helped with the large panel, we did it in 4 stages. They held the ends up while I, by hand worked the material to the panel. Start in the middle and work from there. Work slow and even from one end to the other, speed will can cause wrinkles.
Make sure when doing sections at a time you cover the material with some thing so no glue gets sprayed on, we used garbage bags. Excess spray on the panel when doing in sections does'nt matter..glue it all you want the material won't stick if it has no glue on it......but all ways test first!
    hl3.jpg

Ater it was all done I used the knife to cut the excess off and the razor to cut the holes for the lite, visors, and coat hangers. Turned out pritty good I think.

    hl5.jpg

    This cost me aprx...
    $40 for the denum
    $4 for the dye
    $20 glue
    $10(?) lacour thinner
    5 minute epoxy....CHEAP
The tape I have no idea about cost but Tuck Tape would work just as good for this.....cheap also

Takeing the car apart was apx 2-3 hours, Cleaning an applying new material ready for re-install apx 4 hours of work

That's the quickest time I've heard of to get a roof over your head!:rofl2:

Thanks for the info. Someday, I may have to do the same thing.(y)
