We've got the I-5 thoroughfare going through this area (major north/south highway, goes from the Mexican border south of San Diego all the way to Canada), and its speed limit varies (in this area) from 60 to 70 or so. You've got to watch the signs. Coming in to the metro Eugene area it drops, and if you're not careful, you'll get lit up. The other 'freeways' we have have a limit of 55 on them. I tend to go no more than 5 over.....

It was only a few years ago that my home state Illinois raised the speed for trucks and anyone pulling a trailer from 55 to 65, same as cars. That was a stupid law ever since they lowered the speed limit years ago. I believe some Illinois highways are also 70 or more now for everyone.
I still liked it better when cars had to stop until a horse and buggy got past.

Just back from an old-style 2,000 mile (3,200 km.) family road trip (with a Dodge Caravan, not a wagon, unfortunately :( )

In Michigan's U.P. the speed limit is 55 mph on the secondary highways. I drove 60 mph and got passed by people driving like alcoholics on their way to the liquor store before it closed. Maybe they were. :)

Between Sault Ste. Marie and Ottawa on Highway 17 the speed limit is 90 kmph. I set the cruise control to 100 kmph. and got passed by people driving like ... well, you can guess the rest.

Bought, borrowed, or stolen, you were still seen with your family in public in a mini van!:slap:

Long ago, well not too long ago, friends bought a new Dodge Caravan. They talked how nice it rode, the fuel mileage, and how they could move the rear seats to sleep in it. In a moment of weakness I actually considered...... a mini van.:slap: I tease. But many are nice handy vehicles with lots of creature comforts.
And then there was the HHR panel truck I almost bought.
