Eight Corvettes! What did you expect in a Corvette museum?

Back in 1981 a sinkhole swallowed a few Porsches in Winter Park Fl.
And a pickup with a camper.
I guess it happened in the middle of the night....

When we first moved to Florida nearly 20 years ago seems like all we read was about sink holes. Even our local high school tore down the main building because a sink hole was rumored under it. Several years later they built a new section right where the old one was. ????
There are a lot of small sink holes around the area.
Shouldn't be a problem around here this year because of all the rain keeping the aquafier filled.
    Sad about those Corvettes.

All those pretty soupbowl shaped lakes in Florida are really just old sinhkoles.
My nephews wife makes a pretty good living down in Tampa as an insurance company sinkhole specialist.
Other peoples pain is her gain, I guess.
Why do we see more of this?

    I blame Pepsico and golfers.
But really it would eventually happen anyway...:yup:

I've been there - weird. Did a big time burnout on the driveway - wife thought the car was on fire.

Great fodder for "corvettes suck" jokes though.

This one happened overnight as well. I think an automatic fire alarm went off around 4:30AM from what I remember reading. They have 'live' webcams on the museum website for the whole place, but they've turned off the one in the dome where the hole is.

I'm no engineer, but just from looking at that one picture, this is going to be an expensive fix.........also I read some other post on FB about there being a lot of caves in Kentucky?

Mammouth Cave park is not far NE of there. They don't call it MAMMOUTH because of wooly creatures living there. (Mammouth = Large.) Kentucky is built over a basement covering most of the state. When water moves and rock disolves basements cave in.

Depends how they fix it. Might be more cost effective to put a new floor in their new, lower level, add some stairs and and escalator and call it done.

That's a great idea. Still, who knows how much lower this new lower level may go? Things like this take years of studies to determine how safe it will be to rebuild. I think it might be a good place to store Crossover vehicles, SUV's, and minivans.

My internet stinks. It took over 20 minutes to watch the first 48 sec video and the second never did start.
    Probably saved me the heartaches.:cry::cry:

No way fellas - that place is toast. Check out this video:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5FG9_mGWPo

Shot by a radio controlled helicopter drone, you can see the depths of the holes - more than 50 feet deep, could be 100 feet. They're gonna save the cars they can and bull doze the place - that's my bet. The drone footage is worth the view.
