Clamshell rust!

    Are the clips any different (in size) from a regular clip rear windows of other models of that era? Are they metal or plastic?.. I had a few broken on my Riviera's windshield and had a hard time finding the right ones (they're all look-a-likes when showed on on a picture on several sites)

    Let us know how the re-install of the window went :thumbs2:

    I know the clips seem similar to those in the windshield, but unfortunately no idea if they are the same model to model. IIRC, Mr G's fasteners has a reasonably illustrated catalog... if you have one, maybe you can match it. We're still patching holes BTW, but I'll try to keep up with pics and info as I progress!

    Mine are metal... but depending on your cars' past life, who knows what was put in if repairs were done in the past.

    I bought this universal one from my local bodyshop supplier and as aornest pointed out, its not a brute force type of task. I used a piece of vinyl between the body and the tool to avoid gouging the paint.

    You should see if you can find a good shop manual with the trim fastener locations (probably Chilton's version) from your library or the original Factory manuals from Ebay. That'll give you an idea of which type you deal with from front to back. Mine is the 21510 - all in one:

    I'm in Canada, but that's a US manufacturer. I think I paid like $8.00 for it.

    Yeah its kind of a hard link to find in a real menu, but when you click on the one you want there's a line of sections at the top telling you where you are, so that you can backtrack to the beginning. That's how I found it anyway. :thumbs2:

    I have alway been a huge proponent of purchasing factory shop/body manuals. They provide far more info than Chilton or Haynes, and is you shop carefully, are not usually too espensive.

    So, after a lot of personal life BS, here are pics of the first patches to go in, plus a before shot. Weld thru primer was applied, and patches made from 20 gauge steel. I didn't want to got to this length, but really had no choice given the damage.

    Here's the latest... I just might get this done yet! This shows pics of the patch itself (bent on a brake, but the "lip" hammered into it), and various stages up to almost complete weld-in. I'm not a patient photo-taker, so some have a little fuzziness to them, but I hope you get the idea. Adam
