Someone got themselves a very, very special car here.
Sure hope the new owner knows what he's got and preserves this beauty.

Interior is really cool but I just don't see it being worth 88 hun, especially w/71k mls(maybe if it had like 35k mls-???)!

Sometimes, special items drive up the value considerably. In this case, that Valencia cloth trim is unique (and rare) enough to command quite a price jump. In my opinion, if it had 'normal' cloth upholstery, the market value would be down in the $5-6k range.

    Other examples:
Some '63 Ford Country Squires and Falcon Squires came with a front bucket seat/console option (console shift in the Country Squire) Very, very few were ever built. The option itself was only maybe a couple of hundred, but now those wagons are worth thousands more, just because of that feature.

Pontiac's Endura Styling Option on the '71/'72 Lemans gave you what was basically a wagon that looked like a GTO - but wasn't. Had the same front end appearance. These are quite valuable.

Old car values are always somewhat subjective, particularly for a unique and rarely seen model like this one. Apparently this Pontiac was worth $8800 to at least one person. And, as mentioned previously, had the auction been allowed to run its course, the bidding might very well have ended up exceeding the BIN price. Interest in old American wagons continues to grow.

For comparison, this '77 Grand Safari with the 301 V8 and 40k miles has been for sale for years priced at $14k with apparently no takers. Personally, I'd much rather have that '78 with the 403 V8 and Valencia interior even if it does have 30k more miles on it.

Yup, me too. If I didn't already have mine, I would have definitely given this one a shot.

Think they could have the Valencia upholstery fabric?

The Valencia custom trim upholstery group option cost was a whopping $370.

The only more expensive option on this ultra loaded 1978 Pontiac wagon was custom air conditioning at $581.

Again, hope this special Pontiac Safari wagon has found an appreciate home. :yup:

Does anyone have a box wagon with the factory vinyl front seats and cloth rear seats? I know I've seen reference to them in literature.

Mine's the other way around - cloth on the front two, vinyl for the third. This was the way most of the 3-seat box wagons came - even the luxurious Buick Electra Estates. The main exception is the Olds Custom Cruiser, which had a matching 3rd seat.

The only possible reason I could see for ordering vinyl for the front and cloth for the back is perhaps livery use - hotel / airport pick up vehicles, etc.

I've seen 80's Electra wagons with cloth from seats and vinyl 2nd and 3rd row seats. Kid safe!

Yes, we saw a really nice 1978 Buick Estate Wagon with the Limited package option like that on the forum for sale last year. It had the velour Electra front seat and vinyl in the back.
