I've just realized that Zip Ties replaced coat hangers and bailing wire. And Duct Tape is our friend!
    At least that's how I remember it!:rofl2:

You are right elderly person. I have used many coat hangers on my fancy exhaust. We were city dudes and bailing wire was not handy.
But any ole coat hanger will not do. You must use those old black heavy duty hangers and use real Vicegrips to cut and shape them. Grandma always wondered why I needed so many coat hangers for my closet!!!!!!!!

My Dad had me chew a whole pack of chewing gum one time when I was little just so he could patch a pinhole in a 57 Pontiac gas tank.

I am not old yet but when the younger guys ask "what is that?" when I talk about a 3 on the tree. Even worse is when I explain and they say,"I never seen one of those!"

Learned to drive a clutch in a three on the tree farm truck, then honed my skills in a 65 VW Bus.

I remember the first vehicle with chrome wheels I had. I was so excited to buy a package of SOS pads and a plastic bucket and it started storming on my way home from Brookshire's so I went right back outside in a thunderstorm to scrub down the wheels of that truck!

Oh! So that'[s where the saying "OIL CANNING" came from in body work?:rofl2:
Remember, then they went to cardboard cans with a metal lid!
I even bought recycled oil in glass bottles with a spout on top.
I also have CHURCH KEY in my tool box.

Hows this for old school hot rod shade tree mechanics. My 82 year old friend Al said that when his car (A 1950 Ford) was loading up when he'd change the carbs or the plugs were fouling, he'd take a hand full of rice and a squirt bottle and put the rice down the carburetor primary's while the engine was running and revved the engine while pumping the water squirt bottle down the throats! He said the rice was not hard enough to do any harm to the engine, but hard enough to remove all the carbon built up on the plugs and pistons! The water worked like a steam cleaner at the same time! He'd take out one of the plugs and show me. It was as clean as a new set! His engine would run better after he did it too! He said it was an old trick he had been doing for over fifty years and it never let him down. When we later took off the heads to change the valve springs and seals, I saw the chambers were like new as were the top of the pistons!!! Whatta ya think of that old trick?!
