They are saying we may get a dusting of snow in the Austin area tonight into tomorrow morning, between 3-9am. Will be in the upper 40's tomorrow so it won't last long, but everyone here is freaking out...Misty said the grocery store is FULL this morning. Yep an inch of snow and mayhem ensues. Freeways closed, schools closed, rolling blackouts.......hehehehe
Didn't you'uns(SC term for ya'll) get a bunch of snow last season or season before? Maybe it was north around the Dallas area?
It's 11:18PST right now as I post this. Still a lot of frost on the ground from the night before. It's 30 degrees outside. No precipitation, but it's cloudy. Wife just got back from walking the dog. I think I'll have to load her and the dog in the microwave to defrost them.
12:15PST a stone throw away from KK, clear sky, very frosted and cold this AM. Frost is still heavy where ever there is shade....but it's sunny. I've been puttering around the yard (cleaning up dogy bars is better in the freeze), in the back yard covered in shade it's freezing, walk into the drive way covered in sun and it's too hot. I do have to say, days like this are my favorate, really chilly but dry and clear.........but then there is allways tommorow......................... Mike, I'd offer to come down and drive for you in the snow....but the Texas heat would probly kill me!
I was in Dallas a few years back, after they opened the airport from a 3 inch snowfall - IT PARALIZED THE CITY!!! Took over 24 hours to clean up the roads from like the 100+ accidents! All anyone wanted to do was throw snowballs - like they never saw or had snow before.
We got almost an inch back in 2011. It was gone by noon, but I had fun running to get breakfast in it....hardly another person on the road that early morning. It was like driving on a ski slope.....smooth and blinding white in the sun!
Yep it's a real event when white stuff falls. Dallas usually sees it once or twice a winter, but it's rare here in Austin since we're quite a bit farther south. NOBODY can drive on it....they go too fast or too slow and JAM on their brakes....it's comical....
Thinking way back to my snow filled youth, I believe it's this way everywhere during the first snow falls. No matter how many years these people drive in snow they have to re-learn each season. When four-wheel drive first became common there where more of them in the ditches than others. They soon discovered 4 or more wheels slide as easy as two. I never really worried about my driving, I worried about that other guy! And honestly no matter how well you drive, luck has a lot to do with it.
Like where are the other drivers? Are they all hiding out at home? Man, those roads look great to someone from Canada in the winter....
I love it when we get at least 10 inches of snow. That is enough to scare most idiots off the road, which lets THIS idiot make some real time! Of course, I'm also the first idiot of the season on snow tires all the way around, too.
