Sorry no pictures but a nice story. Last year at a friend's daughter's birthday I met one of his friend's dad, Mr.Ronald. Real nice cajun fellow from a town called Chackbay Louisiana. It is about 2 hours or so from me. Anyhow my friend sent me a car show flyer for a benefit car show he was helping out with in Chackbay for a guy who has got cancer of the lymph nodes for a 3rd time. I didn't think much of it at the time until Saturday when he asked if I would be able to bring a car. Then I realized it must mean something to him. I get up Sunday, weather is forecasted to turn to s#!* but decide to for the first time to trailer a car since premium gas is $3.84 a gallon car gets 8 or 9 miles to the gallon so it would cost me a little over $100 in fuel or pull it with my dad's diesel, 19 miles to the gallon $35 round trip.Never been a fan of trailering a car unless it was broke but was the best way to go in this case. Bring a friend with me that wanted to go and to help incase of a problem. So we load the Malibu and 2 hours later we are deep in the swamp off of hwy 20 at Chackbay Fairgrounds and it starts to rain as we unload. Get unloaded and pull into registration at about 11:30 am. Lady says " voting ballots were to be turned in at 12 so most are already in." I reply "Thanks but was just there to support the cause and would still register." She was happy and when filling out the registration was shocked I came from a couple hours away for a little show for about 60 cars. We park the car go get tickets for food and drinks tell my friend who wanted me to come "Hi" when the lady from registration comes hunting me down pointing me out to 2 men, one being Mr.Ronald who with tears in his eyes said "You came all the way here for my son's benefit, Mike said you were a good friend! Thank you so much!" I met the whole family and half the town, kinda felt like a movie star. Rain let up for about 2 hours then came back just in time to load up in the rain and drive back home but I grinned the whole way and am glad I went and made some new friends, that thank you from Mr.Ronald made it worth way more than I can explain.
You did good 1Tireman! Another great story from this forum. It makes the rest of us proud to say you and others here are our friends. Even though the sun didn't shine you brought brightness to others.
Most shows are for a charity or benefit but these people felt the need to thank me which I was not looking for or wanted but I thought it was a genuine good gesture on thier part with all going on in thier life to come tell me thanks for spending a few hours with them...They were the good people and I was honored to be invited!
Congratulations, 1TireMan. You did a great thing there. It is things like this that make me PROUD to be a member of these forums. The people here are amazing. Here's hoping that the young man wins his battle. Certainly you did your part to help ease the burden on his family. I don't blame you in the least for trailering the Malibu. Given the difference in fuel cost, especially, towing the car makes perfect sense. Especially with the weather being 'iffy' at best. I'm sure the power of the Malibu makes it a handful in anything but dry conditions!
