It's been about 8 weeks since I bought my 84 Country Squire and I'm loving it. The only thing that I like better than the car is the way people react to it. At least once a week somebody comes up to me in a parking lot or at the gas pump and starts asking about the car and telling me about the station wagon they grew up with. Night before last I heard someone honking at me at a traffic light and realized it was some young lady in a late eighties GM mid size wagon, she was waving and grinning. How cool! I thought I was just buying a car that I thought was cool, I didn't realize that I was joining a club.

Yes sir, you are now a member of the station wagon club. Are you married? Perhaps you may meet that wagon again someplace. Of course, if you are married it will be just to say how nice looking the station wagon is.:thumbs2:

Wagons are pretty few and far between these days, especially the full-size ones. I never pass one without a honk and/or wave.

Driving anything large and old is not for the shy and retiring! Nora is far from being in what I call good shape, and still I get comments, thumbs up, etc every week. People seem to love seeing old land yachts being used as cars. I can only imagine how much more reaction you get with a wood paneled wagon!

I know exactly what you mean Rev, and I agree. Just givin ya a hard time. :rednose:

And Dave, welcome to the wagon club. There is something Ironic and yet romantic (as Rev puts it) about traveling around in a car that was once the most pedestrian and most populous vehicle on the road, only to somehow largely fade into memory and become a rare sight. Most people of our generation and before have a strong sentimental connection to station wagons and it gives them a certain sense of nostalgia to see one. Congrats on your purchase, welcome to the character filled fraternity of wagon owners and cheers to many years of happy motoring.

We've always gotten that attention with our 55 Chervy wagon. Naturally, being a tri-five Chevy, mostly bright red, and sort of a street rod looking car, I figured that's what brought the waves, stares, and compliments. Didn't realize it's also because it is diffferent being a wagon.
Actually, all along, I thought it was just me that was so special!~:biglaugh:
But all of us wagon forum members are special. So just get used to it.:2_thumbs_up_-_anima
