Tha young woman on the left is one of the residents of the burnt building, she got out in her jamies with her pet bunny, that's it. I suspect there will be fund raisers for these folks.

As I understand it, there were five apartments rented at the time one being a new mother with a one week old baby. Apparently two young teenagers were passing by, noticed the fire and woke up the people in the building...good people!

This thought has gone through my mind as well. I'm sure those have thought of this as well. Time will tell, the RCMP will get their man. They got the young man who caused this...

The white building in the center background is the one that had the fire.

They'll figure it out and catch who's responsible.

Found out today the building is being torn down. Not a huge surprise but what was a surprise is the owner is going to rebuild. I'm so pleased usually in these small towns it doesn't always work out this way.
No pics yet the demo is suppose to start tomorrow.

Always kind of sad to see an older building disappear. Hopefully the replacement will be sympathetic to the style of its predecessor.

I lived in a small city in Southern Alberta and they were quick to dispose of many of their character buildings initially, like many places, and only later look back and think "gosh, what a tourist draw and nice environment this would have been............."

    It's happening again

Another building is ablaze as I type, the sirens have been none stop for several hours now!
When we first realized there was a fire we stepped out the front door and down the hill we could see the flames and smoke. All I could think of was the old lady in the mobile home...she goes to bed so early. I ran down the street but as I got closer I could see through the smoke that it was the cabinet stop(part of Home hardware) next door. The cabinet shop is at the end of my street on the corner. Around the corner on the other side is a very old house that the couple have been slowly restoring. There is only a driveway been them and the cabinet shop. At the end of their driveway they have a small garage/workshop with a hearse parked in front that he was restoring.
It would seem that he had been working in the garage, shut everything down and went in the house. Awhile later looked out to see a light coming from the garage, puzzled he went to check, grabbed the garden hose but it spread to the cabinet shop. The fire dept. to them they think they'll be able to save the house but the hearse, garage and cabinet shop are gone.
I took coats to Kim and her hubby(the home owners)and offer a place for them and their cats not sure what else to do.
OMG there are more sirens, I'm going back to see what what is happening.

The cabinet shop is completely gone. They are watering down the house, it looks ok. There are fire depts here from as far away as Sackville(almost to Halifax) and Truro.
