I'm super stoked to be starting my 12 week training for my first half marathon. I so want a 13.1 sticker for my car. I still run with my good friend from high school and we are training and running this 13.1 together. Will be so much fun, we are traveling to Nashville, TN for the race. So do we have any runners on here?

I ran for many yrs till my knees said :naughty:. Ran a lot of local 5k's never did any longer ones. Actually ran 11 mi about 3x in my career, didn't start out runs to do that, just kept going. Hit the "Runner's High" they talk about. Good luck! (y)

13.1 is a ways to run...I would probably pass out at the 60ft. mark. Have fun training and running!

I think I would like to try running...not sure why I don't. I do enjoy walking, I guess running would get me back home and on here faster. :) Good luck with your 1/2 marathon.

That is awesome! I run as well and was planning to start the half marathon training in July. I hurt my hip, so I have been taking it easy, but if all goes well, I will start in July.

We're starting the first week in July, it's a 12 week training course which puts us right on schedule for the race on Sept. 22. Best of luck with your hip and training.

I used to run like the wind in high school...now I run like an injured bird in wet tar.

Me too! Used to be able to run fairly fast and long distances, and jump hurdles. Now I barely creap along and have troubles getting up a curb. I think the curbs are higher !
I notice we rarely see joggers anymore. Just obese people waddling in to the fast food joints. Many of them park in the handicapped spots or use electric scooters.
Get out and at least walk while you can.

Good luck with the run, BBB.

I'm only running if something big and scary is chasing me.
I get behind the wheel for much less mileage than that. ;) :slap:

Good for you BBB. A buddy, had colon cancer when he was 62 and just six months after he retired, decided that once he got that taken care of he was going to take better care of himself. He has taken up running and having just passed his 65th year he entered and completed a full marathon. It just proves that age is not the issue, it is mind set and the will to do something you believe you can.

I'm like Steve-E-D, I only run when something big and scarier than me is chasing me. Well, or when I want to be first in line at the pot luck dinner. If I don't beat CS54 I'm usually out of luck for the good stuff.

Yep, he's an inspiration to all of his friends although he won't acknowledge any of it as being anything special.

You are doing a great thing going out and getting through the half marathon. There are many of us who just don't have that level of ambition to put on running clothes, shoes, and then invest the time when we could be eating another donut at the coffee joint talking cars, politics, jokes and wondering what all those people out on the street are running away from:rofl2:

Keep us posted on how you are doing. Maybe the rest of us will lose a few pounds just by reading your posts? Hey, gotta try
