Hi from the land of Beer, Brats, and Recalls

Hi, I'm Jim and I'm an Wagon Addict.

I am in West Allis, Wisconsin, USA (we call it St'Allis to PO the politicians), two blocks from The Milwaukee Mile.

I am a semi-retired computer geek. 2012 will be my 51st anniversary as a computer programmer, so don't none of you young whippersnappers out there try to tell me anything.

I keep trying to have a life of leisure, but clients keep calling me back and giving me stupid money 'cuz I know old stuff.

For large parts of my life I have driven Oldsmobiles. My current fleet:

1992 OCC, Hurst/Hurse (http://s564.photobucket.com/albums/ss86/jetfire88_photos/Hurse/)

1992 OCC, Number 4344 of 4347 made, 83k, summer driver (anybody got a higher VIN?).

1991 OCC, 155k, winter driver

1962 Olds F85 Deluxe wagon, 52k, factory A/C

1958 Morris Minor Woodie, RHD, NZ import

1960 Thunderbird, 4" off the ground, idles at 900rpm, and I promised the neighbors I won't start it after 10pm (2200). All the drawings are done to put a '57-58 Merc wagon roof on it.

My dad bought me my first car at age 12, I learned basic mechanics on it and got it running nice, he then started driving it to work, and then sold it, I got nothing back but an education (on all levels).

I do somewhat live in the past lane, I still use Beta, I just had my LaserDisc freshened up, and I have dial telephones. I'm not a social media person, there are no keyboards involved when I hang out with my friends, but there is usually food and alcohol.

I am a member of ASWOA, the Society of Automotive Historians, Oldsmobile Club of America (& Wisconsin Chapter), Midwest Morris Minor Owners Organization, & Classic Thunderbird Club of Wisconsin.

I find the ImpalaSSForum a great resource for the mechanical issues of the GM '91-'96 B bodies.

She has restored her Morris Minor LCV, which is almost a wagon.

Lots to see here, but I think you've already figured that out.

You've got my interest in that T-bird project. Certainly the correct roof to turn the 'Bird into a wagon. How you gonna handle the back end, though?

Would love to see pics of the F-85, since I have a soft spot in my head for them (first car was a '63 F-85 Cutlass coupe)

I'll be looking at those pics of your Hurts Olds Cruiser for sure as well.

We've got a guy here that you might get along with quite well. His name's 'Stormin Norman', from Winnipeg. He's been pretty busy doing house renovations this year, so not too many posts, but he's got some of the same computer background as yourself. If it don't clear all the beer cans it'll blow them off the highways !

 

She has lots of ground clearence right now, the rear is up on ramps the front is on 3 ton floor jacks. Some yahoo (me) mounted the seats all the way through the floor pans. I've been patching those as well...DOH!

 

That's how I did the front buckets in our 55 wagon. How else can ya do it?

 

You're absolutely right Cat, I'm just sealing now I'm sure I will fix it then drill right through it somewhere else. fun fun fun.

 

Ahem! Back to the subject at hand....hidey ho good cheesehead wagon neighbor Jetfire! What a great opening intro post! You get a rating for opening intro post....wait a minute, that's pic rating scale . I can safely give you a rating! Ditto on what KK said about seeing some F85 . I learned to drive in a 63 F85 Deluxe wagon, also a factory AC car. Give us more detail and several dozen on that one including detail of the AC system, is it still functional? I'll holler with any Fortran/Cobol questions I might have!
