I found this blurb in an article....58 was an interestin engine year.....

Mercury's big news for 1958 was a brace of Lincoln V-8s dubbed "Marauder." A 383 version (bore and stroke: 4.30 x 3.30 inches) with 330 horsepower at 4,800 rpm was standard for Montclair, including the Cruisers. Standard in Park Lane and optional for others was a stroked, 430-cubic-inch extension (4.30 x 3.70) with a hefty 360 horsepower at 4,600 rpm.
There was also an extra-cost 400-horsepower setup with triple two-barrel carbs and special manifolding, something even Lincoln didn't have. Transmission was now your choice of an improved Merc-O-Matic or new "Multi-Matic." Both were excellent. A pity they were still stuck with pushbutton control, which was more prone to get out of whack than a conventional selector and trickier to use.
This big-block V-8 was a milestone engine for Ford. Though Mercury had it only through 1960, Lincoln offered the 430 (only) all the way through 1965. Notable design features began with wedge-shaped combustion chambers entirely within the block, with the top of each bank cast at a 10-degree angle to cylinder bore, and perfectly flat head bottoms permitting larger valves. The heads were designed so that no two exhaust valves were adjacent, and compression in all cylinders was exactly the same. Also, the rocker-arm assembly was greatly simplified, and spark plugs were much more accessible than on the 312.

We have a buddy who recently sold his 33 Chev he'd been using as a tow vehicle. He purchased a larger trailer and the old Chev was just too small/light/short to do towing duty.

I've sent him the advert and extra photos. He NEEDS this car. Whether he'll go for it or not we don't know, but we suspect his wife will about fall over in love with it. Or we are hoping that is the case.

Yeah, he has the bucks, but whether he'll spring or not................

people forget that ASTROS were pretty much the '5 spoke mag OF CHOICE'...all thru the 60's and early 70's...then found a new popularity again in the 90's in the 'Lowrider' scene....then again recently with the "Traditional Rod scene"(rat rod) .
....them and Cragars man...they were the 'gotta have wheels'

SAF....We need another cool wagon towing stuff up here ....taunt him(y)

Its a really cool car, but did ya'll notice the sad looking rusty brake discs? Car is not being driven and enjoyed like Jairus can with his 58 Ford. As much as I really like this Merc, I'd rather have a solid driver like Jairus' 58 to tinker with and enjoy. :camera::camera::camera::camera::camera: for shiny pics in resto class for Merc seller though.

I'd rather enjoy and drive a car, too. I don't do trailer queens.

:rofl2:Right. And I don't like trailer queens or drag queens, only Dairy Queens!

ASTROS were pretty much the '5 spoke mag OF CHOICE'....them and Cragars man...they were the 'gotta have wheels'

And the Torque Thrust D's on my 39 Ford coupe! All have the same basic LOOK !

Yes....the guy says it runs, drives and stops....not exactly an inspired tribute to its mobility. Maybe when they "sent out" the engine and tranny for rebuild it didn't come back as good as they hoped. He also says that he has $85K in it but the reserve is FAR less. Lots of things missing on the car, too, if you look. It will be interesting to watch the bids on this one. I would love to have it if it goes cheap enough. Even if the mechanics are not right it would be one that I would love to do a number on to complete it my way mechanically.

In reading the ad the first time, I got the impression that it was only recently completed. Discs just got some surface rust from sitting a while. Shouldn't be a problem.
