:stirthepot:This fuel increase has created an excellent opportunity for us to pick up older vehicles that people are selling off to get better fuel economy cars. I'm liking it. :hide:

I was at the doctors today and in the area where they do the x-rays, then you go to the lab, then the doctor. One of the girls behind the counter was covered with tattoos. Okay, nothing wrong with that, it is a personal choice, but then again, this is a cancer agency so people there are typically dealing with big things and have deep thoughts. Not sure what I'm trying to say is coming out but you get my drift. So I was surprised to see that every tattoo was a skull. Different renderings and positions, but of the probably 30 or more visible, they were all tied together and all a skull of some type.

I thought "hmmm, kind of morbid and almost the wrong place to have that on display - maybe wear a long sleaved shirt or something".

Is it just me? I don't think so as I noticed others awaiting their turn were avoiding going in to her line-up instead waiting several extra minutes for the other lady.

After being around tens of thousands of people this weekend I am starting to think that there is a generation (25 to 35 year olds) where tattoos are WILDLY popular. I do not have a general opinion of tattoos because I have known some pretty cool old war veterans and bikers that had them but at the same time I do not think the younger folks, in some instances, really thought it through. Heck I have one but it is in a place that no one sees but my sheep! And no it wasn't thought through very well drunk, in love, in my 20s.

I prefer the "stripe delete" versions myself.

For the most part I think it is just someones expression of themselves, in art, with their body as the canvas.

It just seemed that in that particular environment where people are very sensitive and feeling extremely mortal, I thought it was not very sensitive on the young ladies part, and her supervisor. It would take nothing to have her put one of the smocks on that so many people there are wearing for work.

Anyway, I just thought I'd bounce it off you folks. When I told my wife she just shrugged and said the lady is probably pretty proud of them and would be surprised that someone would be bothered by them.

Interesting. I guess I'm just out of touch with the world of today.

This says the post almost anything you want thread.

My wife just suggested something to me, to leave the van at the junkyard where it awaits a replacement transmission, to trade it for the 3rd row seats for her Durango. She says that in exchange for her not having to see the minivan again and for not having to sink another $800-$1200 into it for that and a radiator, that I may use that money we set aside to purchase a car SHE found on eBay.

    A domestic car.

    Not a truck.

Even better, it's a station wagon.

    An OCC for the occupant?

We'll know in 10 minutes if my proxy bid will be high enough.

I think it's more a case of the world of today being out of touch with you and everything else. While I agree that it's her choice and she can do as she pleases, this is a perfect example of how the wishes or opinions of other should have an impact on one's actions. Few people today think of anything other than what they want to do and care nothing for what anyone else thinks. I long for the days when there was a pervasive attitude of respect for everyone else.

So, this tattoo thing is universal? I was beginning to think it was just a Florida thing. We're seeing kids almost out of the womb with multiple tattoos and great grannys with odd looking ones on odd parts of their bodies. Same with piercings.
Many businesses have rules on what can be visible so a lot of people wear high necked tops and long sleaves. I'd be shipping that cute tattoo lovin skull gal to the morgue or some other section to work.

Can't say a lot about it. While I don't have any to deface my beautiful body my wife just had to get several a few years ago, then more last year. Even though we sold our bike years ago, she thinks she's a biker! To me a few can be nice. But so many people overdo it:)

Its not so much that she has tatoos in this case. Its the subject matter. If you were going into a cardiologist or a cancer treatment center, and one of the staff was dressed up as the Grim Reaper, would that staff member be your first choice for service?

Yeah, seems to be widespread and getting more so all the time. I'm fascinated by how many people can complain about the economy, and drop hundreds or even thousands on tattoos.

I don't condemn anyone for getting them (unless they're family...then all bets are off.) but I'm not a fan of them myself. I stopped seeing an otherwise perfectly charming young lady some years ago mostly because I...found...a tattoo one evening. There's just something about them that I have trouble tolerating. Not an aspect of my personality that I'm particularly proud of.

One of my guilty little pleasures is visiting these two sites to see just how many people get really bad/dumb tattoos. I love the ones with glaring spelling mistakes in them. There's something pretty funny about the permanence of stupidity.

A couple miscommunications about how much to raise the proxy to and someone else got it. I wanted to bid 866.66 to seal the deal (was high bid at $700 for the last minute or so) but she wanted to bid 766.66 and by the time we settled on 816.66 it was over.

Meh, it's not the only one out there. But it did have cold AC and relatively low miles but it was also a 305 TBI with red cloth guts and only one working power window. Also read through the AutoCheck report, it was born in ND, lived in MN from 03-10, then came to Corpus. None of those places are that great about rust, but the pics looked ok. Oh well. Just means the offer stands for when I find another and I'll try to get the wife's final price before the 2 minute warning, LOL...

Incidentally, this winner was also a bidder in the car's last auction. I don't know if he was the winning bidder who backed out, though. So a second chance offer may be forthcoming at $700 or $710. And I'll take it for that for sure. (edit: nope, he bid the same last time as this time early, but this time he sniped it at the close, no idea how high, but more than the $700 I started with, dang it)
