Scored a free riding lawnmower Sunday

I put this in my top 10 free scores. I am thinking it is around early 90's craftsmen riding mower since it is square and boxy looking. My friend got it last year from his uncle's estate and used it last summer but decided to buy a zero turn so he knows if it has wheels or free I am the man for it. When he called me to come get it I figured I would just ditch the cutting deck (figuring it was rusted out or worn out) and just use it to move our small trailers around and let the girls ride it around the property.When I see it, it is in great shape and has a nice factory bumper on the front and was garaged kept brought it home and cleaned it up, coat of wax and man it cuts grass great. It is a 15hp 42" cut. I have 2 Cub cadet riders, one has 400hrs and on it's last leg the other has 10 hrs 24hp 50" cut that is in the shop for warranty work so it worked out great.

 

Sweet! Nice score. We had an early 90's Craftsman with Kohler engine, and that more was great. Only issue we had with ours was it had the crappy hydrostatic transmission, and it broke twice. Always go with actualy GEARS if you get a riding mower.

My other 2 have hydrastatic, this one has gears. Hate to admit it but looks like they took better care of it then I do mine.

I got a little Wheel Horse rider last summer for $100. I didn't want a big rider because it won't fit between the rocks and trees going into the side yard. He said the mower deck had no power. I don't think he knew much about mowers. I don't either but a lot of it is pretty basic. I looked and the belt had a huge chunk missing and the bearing in one of the sheaves was completely gone, it was just laying there rattling around. He also said it had a new engine put it in not too long ago and been sitting for a year and won't run, but did run if you put gas in it. The engine did look pretty new. But this thing had been sitting for far longer than a year. My stuff sits for a year sometimes and usually fires up with clean gas and spark plug, and starting fluid. The entire fuel system looked like it had silicone caulk in it from the old fuel. After a day of cleaning that out, it ran pretty good. I bought a belt, and fixed the sheave with an alternator bearing I had laying around, it was the same size. Mowed with it all last summer.

thats funny....i quit using mine a few years ago....
....mowing the lawn(acre) is the closest thing to excerise that I get

That really was interesting. Mower decks here in Florida take a heck of a beating. And here I thought it was cool with a 1955 Chevy hood bird on my other Sears rider!

I think I'll just find a large cardboard box and drop it over my new riding mower. A quick rattlecan spray paint and it'll look like my 55 wagon. Here in the boonies hardly anyone will see it anyway.
