Ok all you Ford experts out there. Question?

The other day the high pressure hose blew out in the parking lot at work. The pump ran for about 10 seconds dry. I replaced the hose. filled the pump and bled the air (rotated the steering from lock to lock about 50 times while jacked up with the engine off until no more air came out). Oh, I took the belt off and drove it home about 7 miles. It drove pretty well for no power.

Now the pump is noisy! Not a grinding sound, just a groan under load. I can't hear it at all during normal driving or at idle. Only during slow turns like while entering my driveway or manuvering in parking lots.

Do I know need a new pump?

For comparison I had replaced the PS pump on my Ranger 'cause it was clattery and noisy all the time, even at idle with no load.

Aerostars will always do that. We have had two and both do it. Even Ford trucks do it. You can always tell a Ford by their steering. I am no expert with Fords but when they get older they attend to start that.

well let me see here ,,,well i got some david allen coe here or hows about willie nelson,,,,,, but seriously did you try pulling out the check valve and cleaning it and also put a gauge on it and check the pressure,,,,you obviously have clean fluid after you flushed the system when the line blew,,,,,it may just be plum tired and time for a new pump assuming its original i reckon thats not bad for its age

Nope, didn't even know there was a check valve. I'll look in to it as the line blew the fitting apart at the pump. Can I assume the check valve is in the attachment there on the pump? By the way, power steering fluid is a wonderful cleaner/degreaser. The drivers side of the engine bay is nice and clean now.
