With regret I have to tell you that I have sold my 88 Caprice as of tomorrow... Some of you may know I have been struggeling a bit to get it to what I need at this point in my life. Last week I had to refill the airco as I will go on holiday coming weekend. It turned out to have a broken pump and fixing it would set me back 700 euro. This made think again and together with proposed new engine plan to be able to move my family to Italy 3 times a year, costing 7000 euros and some other stuff, I decided that this was not the car. I feel especially bad as my girlfriend was not really wild of the idea of buying and older american car in the first place, but got enthousiastic about the caprice anyway. We even choose the American Racing rims together! You can understand the disappointment. Although this will cost me money as I will never get back what I invested in the past couple of months, I still think it is better to stop this project before it really gets out of hand. We have decided that at this moment it is better to have a more modern car for these heavy travels. So, friday I will pick up our new car: a 1999 Subaru Legacy 2.5 GX Touringwagon. I think its pretty nice having all leather interior with everything, 2.5 liter boxer engine (165 hp) coupled to a 4 speed automatic and All Wheel Drive. And of course: it is still a stationwagon! So even though it is not comparible to most cars here, I still hope it is acceptable enough to allow me to stay here. I like to add that even though I had to sell this semi-classic, it is certainly not the end of the love or the hobby! My very first car was a 1972 Chrysler Valiant /6 and that love for these cars will never go away!!! It is just a matter of time.......
Nooooooooooooo One can only hope that the buyer changes his mind so that you are not left with "WAGON SELLERS REMORSE" as i have after parting with "Marcia" my beloved 86 Olds Custom Cruiser. I now search the adds daily hoping to find another true love
Senri I know you will miss that big Chevy wagon, but I'm sure you will enjoy your new Subaru wagon. You can always look for a antique wagon at a later date.
What kind of wagon are you looking for? 72kingswoodestate has a nice one for sale with a little work will be a great car.
Senri, I think you'll be quite happy with the Subaru. Sometimes you have to judge whether you are spending too much money. There's no age requirement for wagons here and you will always be welcome with the Subaru. Of course you will have to keep us up to date with what you may do to your new wagon. I'm sure the person who bought your Caprice will be very happy. If I were to buy a new wagon I would have to consider Subaru, Volvo and Volkswagen.
I'm sorry to hear about your wagon......but in the end, you still will have the joy of owning a station wagon.....Its a sad parting in a way, like an old friend....I don't know how we get so attached to these machines....Good luck on the Subaru! Jonny
Senri, its a tough thing to let a car like that go, but like you pointed out, you need something you can rely on. Good choice - the Subaru.
Thanks for all the support guys, and for not burning the Subary down. Sometimes we just have to take dicisions with the mind and not with the heart. I will post some pics when I can. It is still a sort of adventure, as friday at 5 pm I will pick up the car and in the night from saturday on sunday I will drive 1500km to Italy with it! At least the first pictures will be nice!
dude...its all about Wagonluv!! you can still be our roving reporter for the Netherlands!! ...and you still got a wagon....nuff said!
Hey Senri, I just remembered that we've got some pictures of a 1983 Mercury Marquis Wagon in the Gallery. The story was that it was a dealer selling on the owner's behalf. It only had 46,000 miles on it! Have a look and maybe you'll spot some on your trip! Starts here and goes forward with the right (>) arrow: http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/gallery/showimage.php?i=1499&c=15
Wow! That is a real nice specimen, at least from the pictures. It is a dream to find something like that, with zero change of that here in Holland. I will take pictures if I come across soemthing, but the changes are really slim. In Italy, or southern Europe for that matter, you won't find many american (classic) cars. I will soon post some pictures of my Subura though.....
