I am a big fan of the "farmer's fix" and i want to know if there are any out there that i am unware of. The definition of a "farmer's fix" is to use an item to keep ya on the road and moving. I hope others will add to this post so that we can all gain if your wagon leaves ya sitting on the side of the road.

One of the ones that still amazes me still to this day.

Cracking a raw egg and putting the yoke in the radiator will stop or slow a leak in your radiator so that you can get home (and longer in my experences).

    What else does everyone have?

I was on the road with band that had a chevy bus with a 350.
On the way back from a late gig in the middle of nowhere the alternator bracket broke.
The owner wedged a tobacco can between it and the block and we were able to limp home.

Broke the bolt off in the head for the alternator bracket last year coming home from crusin' the coast about 40 miles from home I used a deep well socket, turned it sideways and was good to go.If I went to fast it would flex the bracket and you could smell the belt burning so actually I used 2 deep sockets because the first one flung out at about 60mph.Still got the dent from the inside from it.Then to get the bolt out the head the next morning I had to weld a bolt to the broke piece in the head then prayed it held to get the bolt out so I could fix it to finish the rest of the weeks cruises!

I drove my car on the beach which was legal but, of course, I got stuck in the sand and no digging would get me out ...... then I let most of the air out of the tires .... " on the road agin, I just could wait to git back on the road agin"

Dropping the tires down to about 10 - 15 PSI works really well in soft sand by making the tire's footprint larger. I have not tried this trick in mud.

-------When we first moved to Florida we just had to drive over to Daytona Beach and cruise along the sand. Not legal anymore in many areas. We had a Chevy 1/2 ton van. Not the best thing for cruisin any beach. Went too far and into soft sand. I got about two dozen beach babes to toss their bikini tops under the wheels. Didn't help get me out but gave me something to do till the wrecker got there!:rofl2::rofl2::rofl2:========Farmer Fix. Panty hose works as temp patch for radiator or heater hoses. Makes temp bracket holders too. Not many farmers wear those. But might ask his daughter!---Duct tap, WD-40, and Vice grips. Don't leave home without them.

    Oil Leaks ?

Seriously, NO! :banghead3: Wish I did. I've heard and seen all kinds of sealers supposedly to stop oil leaks. But don't know if any actually work. I probably have even tried some. To me, an oil stop leak additive would also stop the oil flowing where it is supposed to go. I guess finding and repairing what leaks is the ultimate fix. Sorry!:banghead3: I do know that in some instances, transmissions, an additive to soften seals may help.

Keep a case of oil in the trunk. :slap:

"Its not an oil leak, its a self purging system. Clean oil in through the top, dirty oil out through the bottom."

I don't think I'd put much trust in sealants. They don't seem to know the difference between a good hole and a bad hole.

I recall as a kid ,y dad whittling a twig to about the size of a wooden matchstick and sticking it into a leaking (eroded) freeze plug to seal it off.
