I notice, too, that the leaves are off the trees in these pix. They are not off the trees yet here and I am north of the car. In fact we haven't even had fall color yet. Makes me wonder how old these pix are?

I wouldn't drive even twenty minutes to look at the car without a few more pictures, a lengthy phone quiz with the owner, and the VIN for some research; the most important being a phone conversation.
The only advice I can offer regarding rust is save your money, be patient, and be ready at the drop of a hat when a Texas car comes up for sale. I am still unable to grasp the northern rust issues on what I consider relatively new cars (under 30 years old).

Yep, you need lots of pictures. I'm from Illinois and I know those pictures are only mild compared to what is normal for Northern Illinois. Be very very careful Xavier. There are places far from Heaven that old station wagons lurk. Still anything is possible. After all, that big ole boat wasn't supposed to sink either.:naughty:

I'd bet my money on a faulty thermostatic choke spring.

'86 5.0 should be EFI. Without more info it's hard to diagnose what it could be.

Sorry, the power in my neighborhood has been going out lately today and I just got online. I have a laptop but I am using a friend's wifi and when the power goes out so does it. Yesterday I didn't really get to get online much because my wife had a day off and we were doing things together and then we had a birthday party to go to... So basically I am trying to catch up on things that I am behind on. One of which is there is some one wanting to see more pics of my car and I wasn't able to do that yesterday as well.
Dammit power is flickering again. Got to post before its lost. more later

Saturday night/ Sunday morning, about a fourth of Joplin got the power knocked out by some rather powerful and well placed lightning. Bolt hit a transformer and the surge was strong enough to knock out five others over in southeast Joplin. They are still trying to get everything back to normal with that.
Anyways, the guy with the wagon wasn't able to get the pics yet because the wagon is at his Mom's house and he didn't make it over there yesterday...
Look I'll be honest. I want it but I am not holding my breath. I tell you what, though, If any of you ever see another one like it, i.e. black and without wood trim, you let me know immediately. I don't have a problem with wood trim so much but my wife doesn't care for it... She thinks it's too much trouble to take care of. Now, that's not to say that we would turn down a perfectly good wagon because it has wood trim. It really doesn't matter in the end. But not having trim is just a bonus. Being black is the icing on the cake. I'm sure that by now it is no secret as to why.
I don't know... I know that there is one out there and we have so much riding on getting one/ selling the kia that the stress is a little hard to deal with sometimes. Well, I will keep you all updated as soon as I am able to know anything myself. Thank you.

I know what you want, Keys. Not an easy find so I can understand your excitement, at first, about the wagon in Chicago. It COULD still work out but it is doubtful. I am anxious to see the pix. I am also doubtful that you will ever get any. If you do, that means the car is still sitting there for 700 bucks. Not a real good sign. By the way....the wood is no trouble to take care of.

Found another one for you....it's only 1,522 miles away in Littleton, New Hampshire:

    http://nh.craigslist.org/cto/2594877047.html

1982 Mercury Grand Marquis Station Wagon - $1150 (Littleton)

Very nice car, rebuilt transmission this past spring, very little surface rust, no dents, power windows, was not driven in the snow last winter, was southern car and runs very well.
