During the summer, they set-up a portable 'drive-in' (big inflatable screen)at the Orange County (Cal.) Fairgrounds -- should be real cool.

When I was maybe 2 or 3 years old (whow, 46 years ago), I used to sit inside the steering wheel of my parents '57 Chevy Wagon and swing myself back and forth like a
carnival ride, the steering wheel was huge!

A few years later they traded in the '57 for a '63 Country Squire.

I used to go out into the driveway, turn the parking lights on and stare into those huge round taillights on the back of the '63, I always thought they were so cool!

Nice to see kids having fun in a wagon again, that's what they were made for, right?

While we're telling stories out of school Clark...

My dad bought a new 1955 Ford sedan and then a new 1958 Ford Ranchwagon. Well somehow, since we lived about an hour from the Canadian Ford plant (Oakville, Ontario) decided to repeat his cost-cutting manoeuvre of picking it up at the plant (both times). Well, he went to get the 1958 wagon, signed off for the pickup, and started checking the build sheet. He ordered the wagon with a 289 V8. the build sheet said deluxe options, but didn't mention that the engine was a 390 V8. He just enjoyed it and never told a soul, until it went in for warranty service. Ford wrote back and hoped he enjoyed the error. :biglaugh:

Gas was $0.36 per Canadian gallon back then!  The US dollar was was about $1.33 (means US drivers were paying about $0.24 per gallon.)

I remember when in the early 70's I'd drive out of my way to buy gas for $0.27 instead of $0.32 near my house. It seems now I'll pay $0.06 more just because it's closer. A dollar more for 10 gallons doesn't phase me.

But now, it's about $3.27 per gallon (average US price/gal) and $1.38/Litre ($6.90/Canuck Gallon). Yours would be $4.09 (just so we Canucks can whine a bit.) Puts a whole new meaning on hosers. :rofl2:

You know what irks me most? When the news says that when adjusted for inflation that gas is really cheaper than it was in 1980.:taz:

We haven't come that far ahead then, have we? Industry hasn't advanced, we don't have better, more efficient cars, and Southern California is still in the old Oil Rush...

Dream spinners, TBird. Don't get mad, use telepathy and telekinesis to save gas. They can't license that! Of course, we can't do it yet, either.
