Vinyl Car Wraps as alternative to Woodgrain?

If anyone is in the car wrap business, here is my question...

Would it be possible to reproduce the woodgrain look on a "wrap" and put on the car?
My temporary fix came with a pretty good amount of NOS woodgrain. it is not enough for the car, and I believe it is no good anyway. It peels away from the backing when the roll is unrolled. But, it could make a perfect pattern for someone wanting to do the exact grain for a 69 t and c. probably not enough call for it, but ....
I am picky, and would not want incorrect grain on the car, if i did restore it. i think it will stay a beater, while i look for what i really want, a tow beast!

I've thought of that too, and I have also see a 69 T&C that was airbrushed with the wood paneling. Again not original, but it was VERY nice, and will not rip. shrink or bubble. I don't have a pic. BTW nice T&C, mines a roof rack delete car too. What is your interior color? I'm looking for a drivers front door panel and the spare tire cover if you ever come across them. MPJ

What is a vinyl wrap? Never heard of it, honestly.

 

It is a thin printed vinyl material that is "wrapped" onto the car (or bus, or truck, or whatever). It's computer generated and printed, so any graphic or pattern that you can create or photograph can be printed onto the wrap. As an example, most NASCAR stock cars use this wrap instead of paint and decals since it can be easily repaired or changed. The vehicles you see on the road with full-body advertising use the same material.

And yes, this is a great idea.

I want to use glass door panels in wood frames for our kitchen cupboards, and print a series of colourful rooster images. Sounds perfect for the job. Thanks. My printer prints 11" X 17" inch sizes.

 

where did you get your seat covers done? they look pretty good. cost?

 

If you mean my seats, they were done by C. E. Wells in Del. they ran me $2100.00 They of course were stiched by copying the patterns on mine, with one diviation. The material came from Legendary, two styles of grain. I am very pleased. MPJ

 

was it expensive to buy material from legendary? how much material did you have to buy? it looks like a good match. what is your color, f8? mine is f5.

 

Hey I do vinyl graphics and wraps for a living. The longevity of vinyl is 5 to 7 years. Depending on how often you wash it and how much it is exposed to sun and elements. I think it would (wood) be a great way to replicate the woodgrain of a vehicle.

Actually 3m (oe) makes woodgrain household shelf liner that closely matches and does work.

 

The seat guy ordered the material, one was like 40/yard, the other was 60 or more, the inserts on the seats are a special grain that legendary has to press into the vinyl (or so I was told) so that was more, thankfully that was the smaller yardage. Yes my interior is F8, I was repalcing the cartpet at the same time so I was able to give him enough to do the lower rear edge in new carpet too. How about a pic or two of your interior? MPJ

 

This site sell Di-Noc for automotive use. I would think that shelf paper, designed for indoor use, might not be such a good idea.
