The owner of the local Honda dealership has side business importing low-mileage, one-owner classics from the U.S. into Canada. My father delivers parts for NAPA and regularly calls me to tell me about the latest batch of cars that were just delivered. He called me this morning to let me know that a 1968 Chevrolet Caprice wagon just turned up yesterday. I rushed out to take a look and get some pics!!

I spoke with the service manager and it's a one-owner car with 16000mi on it. It's all original with a 327ci. The engine could use a cleaning but everything else is immaculate. There are a couple of dings and scratches in the paint but over all it's in fantastic shape.

The service manager looked a little distastefully at my Parisienne. You can see "the bad side" of it in the background of picture 3. The passenger side looks much, much nicer.

It's a trailer brake controller. Looks like whoever owned this originally must have used it just as a trailer hauler and nothing else. The interior is in gorgeous shape.

I've seen 68's sell for $10,000-$14,000 so I suspect I'll have to let this one pass me by.:rofl2:

Strangely enough, the Mrs is really excited about this one. She's even talking about taking out a loan for us to look into buying it.:eek3: She's going to call the dealership's "Classic Division" on Monday to see what they're asking for it out of curiousity.

Dunno Fannie, as a youngster I spent a summer riding the hump in the back seat of an '81 Plymouth Reliant between my somewhat large grandparents. We were on a trip to visit relatives in Pictou and Fredericton. 5 people in a Reliant sure made the distance between Guelph and N.S. feel far.

I paid cash for my Parisienne and we both agreed that my wagon, when I finally find it, would be a cash purchase also. I've been eyeballing a beautiful one-owner '93 Roadmaster nearby for a while now while I raise some cash and once I had it we would start to look at replacing the Parisienne summer car with a classic wagon. We didn't want any more car payments and we wanted to start buying cars with style and class. On the other hand, she's not much for cars. If she's this excited and wants me to buy it, who am I to argue. :D She's thinking that if it's under $10,000 (yeah...right) we can think about it some more.

Shure would be sweet for a trip to N.S. to include leg room!:) I've been 6'3" since junior high so the backseat of a Reliant was mighty unpleasant.

Well your call of course, but like I told my husband...we might some day have the house paid for but with our car history we'll probably always have a car payment  and if she's taken with it there's a good chance you'll have to make room in the driveway.

I'm anxious to see what she comes back with. The Mrs. is notoriously frugal and likes to believe that we should go without ANYTHING as long as we have any kind of debt. We're only a few years from finishing off the mortgage so we've been pumping most of our free cash into paying off other debts. At our current rate we should be debt free in 3 years. (That's making it mighty hard to sneak funds into my wagon fund) Now that it's so close I hate to break stride and increase debt. On the other hand, I won't put up any kind of a fight if she decides this wagon is doable.

That's an awesome feeling isn't it! We too are getting close. However we do love our cars, so that one has a way to go:oops:. Good luck tomorrow...or not...I'm not sure which way to go here:confused:

You don't see cars like wagons show up in this shape very often. Particularly when they are 42 years old. There are a number of low mileage cars come out but they are often in need of a lot of attention. I know having bought a 70 Chevelle that took over 4 years to complete. I regret not finding something like this wagon and doing the little stuff to make it even better. Oh well..........

The Mrs' frugal side took over again this morning (as I knew it would) and she's determined that we can't afford the '68 at all. She even talked herself out of calling the dealership to find out the price to avoid temptation. There were numerous justifications for it all but the end result was as expected. Even after only 13 years together, I can predict this stuff pretty much exactly as it will happen but she likes to get there on her own.

Now back to Plan "A" which will pay off all of the bills and still get me my Roadmaster.
