I actually missed it all as I stayed home. Watch the "Flooding in Ridgecrest" story. http://www.ireport.com/docs/DOC-48192?ref=email
Its incredible what less than 2 inches of rain can do! Sure wont be fun having to clean up that storm
you know whats funny...well not HAHA funny...but....I'm watching how fast the water is going...and I think to myself....daaam....you could SURF!! then all of a sudden the kid shows up with a Boogie Board!!.. ..great minds!! me thinks they have too much ashphalt
No drainage. We have very few areas where there's drainage built in to the streets. With an average rain fall of less than 4.5 inches a year there's only an occasional need. Like Sunday.
I got caught in a Guadalajara Cloud burst once that dumped about 2" in the 30 minutes back from the mall. The water came about an Inch from the car's floor, on some streets. Awesome! I can imagine that some folks must have felt.
We seem to have these flooding problems more often now in Holland. We are used to rain and fighting the water, but we seem to suffer from too much stone and asphalt. Now a lot of cities are changing and building parks and canals again. I like it!
I've seen some Holland housing on TV that floats. Instead of fighting the water some are joining it.:2_thumbs_up_-_anima
Yes, this seems to become more and more popular. One reason is probably that we have to give more land back to the rivers. As the snow in the Alps is melting and some of the rivers we have originate there, they overflow more and more. The piece of land that was always next to the river as a security, has been used for building houses in the past decades. Now with the overflowing, they are building floating houses there.
That explains the rivers..... Some parts of our expressway turn into rivers every few years when there is a big storm..... and they have drainage systems!
