Finally got the car listed this evening. If it does not meet reserve, I have been made an offer by a demo derbier. I hate to see it crashed, but it has to go! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1989...oryZ6417QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Personally I think the car is a beauty for a 20 year old car. The only explanation that I can come up with why it hasen't sold is location and gas prices. I think a lot of people are holding back and are buying transportation rather than coolness. And being realistic, serious collector car buyers are not interested in late 70's to 90's cars. It is really sad to see it wrecked or cut up but I certainly understand your predicament.
My uncle used to brag that he could sell fridges to eskimos (he did too, but that's another story), but you have to be POSITIVE, when you're selling old machines. You could promote it as an excellent backup for a remake of the upcoming real-world version of MAD MAX! All the gas cans you can carry, under lock and key! Features and Benefits! Here's a sign of the times: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/manitoba/story/2008/05/22/gas-theft.html 54-year old charged with Theft over $5,000. For us, that means never another passport, Jail time, restitution, loss of a good job at an age when good jobs are bloody hard to find. I hope his kids are all grads by now.
Dang Stormin' that is bad. I don't know what retirement age is in Canada but I imagine he wasn't too far from it,and to lose the benefit of a job too.
65, but they're trying to push it to 75. (The Feds want to tap the huge investment fund. We have anti-deficit legislation - they can't run us into the red-ink again, like they did in the 1960's to mid-80's.) For the guy to be trusted with a Key-lock Fuel pass, he really screwed up. :banghead3: A friend of mine was a CEO of a major Combustion Research lab (pulse combustion, actually). When he was young and dumb, he got nailed with a Marijuana offence. EVERY Time, he had to travel to the US for a meeting with investors, he had to apply to the Minister of Justice (Federal AG) to get a Minister's Permit to leave the country (road or flying). People just don't think about the freedoms they give up. If this guy is really, really lucky, he'll get his employer to help him out and court, or his family could lose their mortgaged home too. All he can do now, is eat crow, hope his boss has a soft spot, and take his lumps.
Thanks. Well, too bad its not a Olds Custom Cruiser or Caprice Estate. Those seem to be bringing nice prices on ebay. AND of course my RARE 89' Safari has been graced with some of its "brothers" on ebay as well. Less than 5000 of these made and you never see them, but when I listed my 89' there have been 4 others on there this month! ALL 89' models, but none seem as rust free as mine, except perhaps that one 89 that went to $1100. If mine goes to $1100 (which I doubt), I will let it go. If not, I will put a Caprice or Custom Cruiser grill on it and see if I can sell it for more.
Well, now the bid on the "rusty" 89 wagon is almost as high as the bid on mine. Oh well. As mentioned in the other thread, I will probably part out/strip the car and sell the rest to the auto recyclers. You can haul or even drive them in and they will crush them on the spot and then pay you the cash of what the crushed car weighs.
It looks like a fine car with many more miles to burn. I hope you get what you're looking for for it. FWIW I just paid $1000 for a '78 Fairmont, 112,000 miles, excellent shape.
Thanks. Well, unfortunately it looks like it may be headed for a demolition derby. I was offered $800 for it about 6 weeks ago by a guy that wants to run it in a derby, but I told him I did not want to sell it to a derbier. Looks like I may have to end up doing it. My moms car conked out and I am giving her my Lexus and I am buying a Toyota truck or SUV and have to make room for something else! The wagon would make her a nice car, but she wants something smaller. I am losing big time on the car. I have over $2000 in it, not to mention the $80. I just lost by putting it on ebay. This car was my pride and joy for 8 years. Looks like its last few miles will bring a demo guy/gal some pleasure.
No, room for MY 72' Caprice wagon project. I think my moms Skylark project is going down the tubes, as I think my dad is going to give it to my uncle.
