I frequent Hemmings Motor News Forums. Invariably there's someone asking for the value of their car or one they are wanting to purchase. So, what's wrong with that you ask? Why aren't they researching themselves rather than depend on someone else to justify their purchase or selling price. To me it's annoying. I think most everyone on this forum is enjoying their cars to the great extent. I don't think we have any no touch trailered show cars. And if so that's fine too. But I don't think anyone here owns their wagon or other "hobby" car for the investment. My point is if you enjoy your car who cares what it is worth. If you're buying a car and both you and the seller are happy, who cares what it's worth. Has anyone here bought their car for it's value?
Hey Steve you forgot to add a 4th reply in your poll. I got mine for pleasure and for a project to enjoy. So how can I vote?
I originally bought my wagon to replace a beater that was totaled by another driver. Since I lucked into a nice car, I treat it much better than I had planned to. I guess I'm just obsessive compulsive when it comes to my cars. Anyway, since my old Country Squire probably wound up at a demolition derby or as a junkyard parts hauler, I had to deal with the other drivers insurance company. They offered to pay off the total loss based on the price of four Grand Marquis/Crown Vic SEDANS for sale in the area. Around here, a station wagon will go for at least double the price of a sedan from the same year, maybe more. I had to send examples of wagons for sale in the entire southeast, since they are so scarce, along with a copy of a Hot Rod magazine and a newspaper article featuring wagons, and then bitch and threaten the adjuster to finally get the right price. The moral? I bought the car because its practical, but value sometimes DOES matter. And I can carry an 18' canoe in the back, without tie downs. You can't do that with an Exploder!
hmmm....lessee...all of the above I dont buy anything that i wont make money off of when i sell it.. ....but I only buy what I like..
