Up here, our Provincial Insurance company pays half of the cost to supply and install an Immobilizer on cars that are NOT in the top 100 mostly likely to be stolen. Mine goes in the day the plates go on. They list the licensed shops that they allow to do it. My favorite Ford Dealer told me where to take it and to use his name to get them to give her lots of TLC.
But for those who haven't noticed any major rise in car-theft, I thought I'd post these DIY article links, in case you need to shop around. The Aussie 2004 standard is the only one they authourize here. No other equipment is installed. If a guy with a BMW or Escalade has a factory unit and the car gets jacked, he gets to pay his full deductible on his claims, that's how good that Standard is. The Factory units, in most cases, aren't that secure.

As tbird mentioned elsewhere, even the Aussies are seeing a rise in car crimes. My City sees something like 2000 every year for a town of 680,000 (with only 200,000 non-commercial vehicles) 1%. It was double that 2 years ago, when they made these Immobilizers mandatory, and no car with one installed has ever been stolen. Vandalized? Yes. Stolen? Nope.
