Why would anyone want a big alternator? It'll cost a few hundred to get a store-bought cheapy setup or maybe $20 of welding wire to fix a broken bracket, or tack a small section of sheet-metal. Outside of going to big Bus Alternator, there are some fairly hefty ones out there for pickups and motor homes that will fit under the hood. Just leave the belt off when you're not using it to weld or turn off everything in the car when you do. Here's a link with links to parts vendors for a DIY upgrade: http://vb.foureyedpride.com/showthread.php?t=29434&highlight=86+alternator And an Alternator welder setup: http://www.green-trust.org/junkyardprojects/FreeWelderPlans.html On board with Ford or GM alternators: http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/on-boardwelder/index.html
I have seen articles on this in 4x4 magazines and tv shows.I know they will help on those rigs,I just don't know how useful it would be on a car.
