The Pontiac G8 will be an Australian built Holden Commodore. The US version will get Pontiacs signature split grille, badging, etc. I hope they don't add plastic body cladding! Heres a pic of the Holden Monaro ss wagon: At this point, the weak US dollar could, however, make the car too expensive for US buyers. See the previous post by Alexander on this car here.
The General giveth [almost] and the General taketh away. GM honcho Bob Lutz:"We looked at that, but the amount of change to meet US regulations was going to be quite a lot of money...and the sad truth is, as much as some of us like 'sportwagons', they just don't sell in the US."How often do you see an Audi wagon? How often do you see a BMW wagon? How often do you see a Mercedes wagon? The answer is, almost never...they're just not fashionable. I can't explain why," No pontiac G8 sportwagon for you!
Bob Lutz speaks the truth. As many of you know the 1st attempt to bring a Holden Commodore here was the 2004-2007 Pontiac GTO. Base prices were $35,000. I can only imagine what the G8 would have cost. The next GTO will be built here and will probably base at $25k- $30k. But I'll bet we'll see a Firebird first. The Aussies build a great product. It's no cost effective or profitable to ship them here and make them ready for the US market. Shipping 7,000 miles can't be cheap either. Remeber the two seat Capri? Utter failure. Ford never could get them sold. We are going to have to continue recycling our wagons. By the way wagons are doing pretty good this year at Barrett-Jackson. Every day on the Speed Channel. Best car show around.
