This past Saturday we went to the local cruise in. While these cars were not in the cruise, they were on the next street over where we parked. This is an old-timey gas station where I took these. Both of these cars have been at this location for years. The later Ford wagon usually sets at a nearby antique store. Its like brand new on the inside. Looks like an 84 or 85 model. (all of these pics were taken within a few feet of each other, so all of these old cars were together) Here is the 55 model... last year it went down the street and 4 ladies dressed up in 50s clothes jumped out and started handing out candy... Here is a pic we snapped of my GOOD RUNNING 73 Pontiac Grand Ville.... how I wish it were a wagon... This pic was taken directly across the street from the wagons above... And while its not a wagon, still a neat old car... this old 72 Ford LTD 4dr parked very near where we snapped the other pics. This is the old parking lot of the old Ford dealer that was on that street... this car has been setting here for two years, wasting away... what a shame! Interior is still like new and no rust, but some starting under the vinyl top! Something has leaked out from under it.... here is the same car closer to the road... took this pic LAST year.. better shape last year obviously...
Someone should inquire about that 4 door LTD....that's a nice car! Nice Grand Ville, Too, King....no wonder your wagon is sitting.
Yeah, the interior on that 72 LTD is like brand new. The paint looks original and is starting to fade. Last year there wasnt any rust appearing to bubble under the top, but that was not the case this year when I looked at it the other day. Its a shame to see it setting there... maybe it has a "low power" problem? I had thought about putting a note on it, as it would make a nice cruiser, but as you know I really dont need another car right now until the wagon is gone. Thanks for the Grand Ville comment. It looks nicer in the pic than it actually is. The paint is starting to fade and it too has some rust bubbling up under the vinyl top that I have to address soon. Otherwise though its also a totally rust free car. Mechanically its perfect. I have owned it for 8 years and the only thing I have had to do was replace the alternator (started making a noise after I got it wet when washing the engine) and I replaced the valve cover gaskets last year. The transmission has a little "whine" in 1st gear, but its been like this for 8 years and never got any worse... I was told not to worry about it.
Oh, funny thing... where the Grand Ville is in that pic, its only two streets over from where the original owners lived... two streets away from where it was setting when it was brand new in late 1972...
Thanks for the pix, '72. Your Grande Ville looks sweet; I'm sure it rides incredibly. All those early 70's full size GM's did. I'm pretty sure the LTD is a '71, not a '72. The 72's had a straight bumper that went all the way across the grille. That car is way too nice to just sit there and deteriorate. What a shame.
Thanks. Also thanks for the info on the LTD. The 71-72 Fords always confused me. I never realized the difference in the front-end, but I see now what you mean (pic below of a 72). The taillights were also a littel different and that also confused me. lol I remember now, the more slender taillights with the larger center light were the 71s, which this blue one had.
Yeah, the Pontiac does ride very smooth! Even with worn out 38 year old suspension. lol. Now here is or WAS a nice Grand Ville... 1973 car chase involving a then brand new 1973 Grand Ville and 1973 Ventura... Sad to see these cars crashed up... especially the Grand Ville... Neat car chase though.... I have this movie... there is also a scene in this movie with a brand new 1973 Grand Safari wagon.... when it first starts, the guy inthe trunk is in a new 73 Bonneville... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vACWV5sRcY&feature=related and go to 2:20 and see that old 71 Kingswood Estate.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LmD0fKh0Bjw&feature=related
thanx for the pics 72 hats a shame about the LTD...she looks pretty good still ..and speakin of lookin good...your GV looks darn fine too
